kevinxirau If there's one thing a movie should never do, it's make you bored. Sadly, that's how I felt watching the "Ratchet and Clank" movie. This one is an interesting case as its both a big screen adaptation and a reboot to the famed video game series. Ideally, this would be a good marketing strategy. However, while I can't speak for the game given that I've never played it or any prevous installments, the film fell flat. So there's a furry alien named Ratchet who wants to be a galactic ranger and gets his chance when he meets a defective war bot named Clank. Together, they the rangers to stop the villainous Chairman Drek and Dr. Nefarious.While the overall aesthetic is unique, the animation doesn't "Wow" me in any way, looking pretty stale in comparison to other animated films or even modern video games and much of the camera work is bland. Same can be said for the humor as the best jokes barely got a chuckle out of me. While Clank, Grim, and Nefarious are the most engaging characters, the rest of the cast, some played by celebrities, offer nothing worth investing. The most annoying was the petty Capt. Qwark, who makes me want to punch him in the face every time he shows up (apparently, he's like that in the games too). The film also doesn't seem to take advantage of all the crazy weapons and tools, most of which were brought in to be simple gags and fan service. Most disappointing of all when you get down to it is that, despite the title, the relationship between Ratchet and Clank doesn't feel nearly as fleshed out as it could've been despite hitting all the familiar beats, probably because they spend a great amount of time apart from each other.Aside from the abundant action and the simple novelty of seeing these characters take on cinematic life, "Ratchet and Clank" is a rusty piece of entertainment, though be fair it's inoffensive and sticks close to the source material as opposed to other video game movies like "Super Mario Bros". I'm sure your kids will get a kick out of it.

GABRIEL TAPIA Rotten Tomatoes really shoved their head up theirs for this movie. It's not perfect. There are some cringe-worthy jokes and the movie, in general, is very childish. But for a childish VIDEO GAME based movie, it offers good voice-acting, movie cliché references, video game references, great action scenes, and a good message for kids. If you like Ratchet and Clank's cheesy writing from the game, I recommend this movie for you guys. Easily the best video game based movie I have ever seen. If you are still not sure, go on Netflix and take a look at it yourself. I also recommend watching the movie with surround sound as it really was an adventure for me personally when I was watching at the theater. I'll easily give it a 7/10

The Movie Diorama Based on the hit video game series, Ratchet and Clank is about a Lombax wanting to do more with his life as he comes across a defect robot who warns others that the galaxy is in danger. Now the video game franchise is one of my favourites of all time, I own every game and have completed them multiple times so I was pretty excited about this film. looking at the trailer, I could tell this was going to be aimed for kids or fans of the series, anyone else outside of that niche will not enjoy this…I however thought it was enjoyable for what it was. The voice acting was spot on, with some celebrities such as Paul Giamatti and Sylvester Stallone ing in with the original voice actors…it blended in well! The animation was pleasant, obviously not going to compete with Pixar but the animation was never bad at any point. The script was hit or miss, too may one liners as it tries to be funny and unfortunately misses quite often…probably great for kids but rather tiresome for anyone else. The story is far too quick paced for any character or emotional investment which is a shame because if this film did well it could've started a franchise. A great thing that this film has is easter eggs, there are so many of them for the fans that it really did put a smile on my face…but for anyone else they would've been overlooked. This film did coincide with the reboot game that was released also this year, unfortunately the game is way better but this is not the worst video game adaptation which is the best thing I can say. Overall, Ratchet and Clank is a nice animated film for kids and fans but for anyone else it is a rather hollow film that just moves too fast.Reviewed by: http://www.themoviediorama.com

dillon18992 Great movie for those who played the game as kids and a decent family film too. I'll have to emulate the first three games (I've a PS2 downstairs and bought each game as it was released though over about 13 or so years the games have either been lost or scratched up. I still miss upgrading the chicken gun in the first game to turn enemies into giant clucking chickens. Always loved the games and the movie doesn't disappoint either, though they naturally had to squeeze hours upon hours of game (I think I completed the first one twice to get the RYNO since it was the most expensive thing in the game, though with it the last boss became a 5 minute ordeal compared to a 20 minute whittle down his health) it's rather depressing that they can't make video-games like this anymore and have to make movies to immortalise them though the movie has everything from the game (even the hover taxis), just squeezed into an hour and a half. I can understand why critics mightn't like it, they may not have played the games; the movie is a great source of nostalgia for me back to a time where children's video- games were enjoyable either by children or adults and had serious replay value, it's sad to realise that game developers will now just make what they think makes money, or make 'casual games', there's very little out of the box thinking) if you're a fan of the game or have kids the movie is great (though somewhat rushed in areas since they tried to stick to the original game's narrative while giving it an almost complete (spoiler alert) ratchet was never in the galactic rangers ever in the video-games, but quark usually popped up here and there IIRC (end spoiler), a great daytime movie and even my cat hopped up on my lap to avidly watch it. It'd get a 9 out of 10 if they'd made a 2 hour movie that wasn't as rushed, but it's not a Disney-Pixar unlimited time and money animation so I'm sure the studio went as far as their budget would allow and even left it open for a sequel while not leaving things on a cliffhanger.Personally I'd like to see the three original games made into movie form, even if it's direct to DVD, old fans of the game; I can sharing secrets locations of golden bolts how best to get through levels and such, which, sadly nobody does anymore (hence game developers jumping to procedural generation to make things more interesting, hopefully given five years or so they'll have procedural generation designed so no play-through is the same but the whole whispering of secret areas, things to backtrack to and game-play tips will be a schoolyard thing again, I wouldn't want children of mine growing up in such an artificially sterile world) I would assume because all they need is an internet walk-through or let's play videos on YouTube.All in all, budget considered; it's an excellent adaption of video game to movie. I know I've rambled on about games, though it's a movie adaption of a of mind-blowing game, hopefully there will be more movies to come, it's just a pity that the critics gave the movie such a low score, for what it is it's worth eight stars; easily.I look forward to hooking up my PS3 controller to my PC and playing the sequels to the original (I know the original back to front), hopefully this movie will inspire game designers to turn away from total realism and think outside the box a bit more, the Jak and Daxter and Ratchet and Clank game series' made my childhood, along with games like Abe's odyssey and Exodus.
