LastingAware The greatest movie ever!
StyleSk8r At first rather annoying in its heavy emphasis on reenactments, this movie ultimately proves fascinating, simply because the complicated, highly dramatic tale it tells still almost defies belief.
Hayleigh Joseph This is ultimately a movie about the very bad things that can happen when we don't address our unease, when we just try to brush it off, whether that's to fit in or to preserve our self-image.
Aspen Orson There is definitely an excellent idea hidden in the background of the film. Unfortunately, it's difficult to find it.
JohnHowardReid This is definitely a movie that plays with far more power on the home screen than it does in a theater where the director's monotonous TV style, with its tendency to rely on close-ups to carry the emotive action, can become very irritating. It is indeed fortunate that players of the caliber of Nicholson and Hunt can make the best of searching close-ups (they also have the best lines), whereas Kinnear, Gooding and Knight, lacking a similar box-full of histrionic tricks, tend to out-stay their welcome. It's not surprising that Nicholson and Hunt carried off the year's Best Acting awards. In fact, both players are so skillful, they can even hide holes in the script and its inconsistencies of characterization.
cosovicbak "As Good as It Gets" is a movie that stuck on my watchlist for months. Somehow, I always found an excuse not to watch it. When I finally did, I was a bit surprised, both negatively and positively. Story is lovely. We have characters we can (mostly) sympathize with. Acting is (mostly) on very high level(especially Jack Nicholson), but... Who the hell put Helen Hunt in this movie? For God's sake, this woman is a bad (mediocre at best) actress. And honestly, I don't know why, between actresses like Kate Winslet and Judi Dench, she won the Best Actress. Goddamn enough for me to give this movie lower rating.
jon-890-677060 At the age of 54, the reality of offering up a ten rating for any movie, has acquired perhaps twice during these past 5 decades. Now, there have been plenty of 8's and 9's, but ten's are reserved for nothing less than 'entertainment-perfection'.Different strokes for different folks is the old saying, so perhaps my particular rating will not correlate w others, so the idea of offering up the ratings for this movie, from each individual member of our family (along w their specific age), may shed better light on the fairness of the rating.Father (54) - 10 Mom (50) - 10 Son (26) - 10 Daughter (17) - 9.5Hope this is helpful.
GertrudeStern If what you need right now is a heartwarming Jack Nicholson flick, then As Good As It Gets is exactly what it says (barring the last detail + romance).I actually came to AGAIG on the suggestion of a client who struggles with OCD, and who described her feeling of joy, when, in 1997, a film finally depicted someone with OCD up-close and personal. This is hilarious, because Jack's character at the outset is probably one of the last people someone would want as a poster child for their cause. As someone who just got a new apartment, AGAIG reminded me that even if I get into occasional squabbles with my new neighbors, things could be worse. They're not hardened, bigoted authors who are throwing my dog into garbage chutes. I don't have to coax them out of their own misery in order to make them aware of the existence of my emotions.Really, very fun to watch. Helen Hunt plays an unbelievably sticktuitive single mother and love interest, and Jack Nicholson obviously thrives with a compulsive disorder appended to him. Watch it with your mom.
