Diagonaldi Very well executed
Infamousta brilliant actors, brilliant editing
Merolliv I really wanted to like this movie. I feel terribly cynical trashing it, and that's why I'm giving it a middling 5. Actually, I'm giving it a 5 because there were some superb performances.
Cissy Évelyne It really made me laugh, but for some moments I was tearing up because I could relate so much.
sddavis63 What you get from "Dante's Peak" is a pretty typical disaster movie that adds little to that broad "genre." Dante's Peak is a little town in the state of Washington that's nestled against a mountain. It's celebrating the fact that it's been named the "Second Best Place to Live In The United States With A Population Under 20,000." They'll need a huge plaque for the town hall just to get all the words on it. Well, actually they won't. Because there's not going to be a town hall - or a town - for much longer. It turns out that the mountain is a volcano that's getting ready to blow its top.The main characters are Harry Dalton (Pierce Brosnan) - a geologist with the US Geological Survey who realizes that the mountains about to explode - and Rachel Wando (Linda Hamilton) - the mayor of the town. The big question is whether to prepare the town for evacuation. There's just been a company that's made a huge investment, and evacuating because of a potential volcanic eruption won't look very good. Profits before safety, you know - kind of like "Jaws" and other movies. The movie pushes the typical buttons. Rachel has a couple of kids who do something stupid and have to be saved and an ornery mother in law who won't take advice and there's a cute dog too. I was actually more worried about poor Roughy than anyone else in this.Special effects were OK. Performances were OK. Story was typical for a disaster film, although it seemed a little bit long. It's not better or worse than most of them. I wouldn't recommend going out of your way to watch it, but it works if you have some time to kill. (5/10)
adonis98-743-186503 A vulcanologist arrives at a countryside town recently named the second most desirable place to live in America, and discovers that the long dormant volcano, Dante's Peak, may wake up at any moment. Dante's Peak is one of the many 90's films that i loved but for some reason it only has a 5.9/10 and excuse me but that's a sh*tty rating. The film is packed with 2 amazing performances by Pierce Brosnan (GoldenEye, Me) and Linda Hamilton (The Terminator, Terminator 2: Judgment Day), the score by James Newton Howard is amazing, the suspense is created from just the very first scene of the movie and the scene with Ruth gets me every time. This is also a beautiful looking movie with some amazing special effects and locations. It's action packed, dramatic and full of suspense and definitely one of the best disaster movies ever made about Volcanos next to Tommy Lee Jones Volcano film that was released on that same year. (A+)
FlashCallahan USGS scientist Harry Dalton is sent to the small town of Dante's Peak to check on unusual activity. Spurred by the volcano related death of his previous love, Dalton urges Mayor Rachel Wando to put the city on alert. Dalton's boss arrives and countermands Dalton demanding scientific proof. When the proof finally arrives, Harry and Rachel must go to the volcano to rescue her two children and ex-mother-in-law. Danger arises as they try to reach safety while the town below is destroyed......It's your atypical disaster movie, but not like the ones that were more famous in the seventies like The Towering Inferno and Earthquake, it's more like the ones that were made on the tail end of the success of those films. This one feels more like Meteor, or that one with half the cast of Inferno in it, about a hotel near a volcano. And it starts as it means to go on, completely stupidly, but not having one inch of tongue in cheek about it whatsoever. And for this, it's unintentionally hilarious right from the moment a random piece of rock fall through Dalton's truck and kills his girlfriend....Flash forward a few years, and once the most aggressive push ups ever committed to screen are finished, it's back to your standard disaster movie of Dalton warning everyone, everyone doubting him, apart from Sarah Connor, who is falling for him. After all, if you can't find a Terminator, I'm sure Bond would suffice. As it goes, it's nothing really special it's The Deep impact to Volcanos Armageddon, it tries to be too serious, but when we have boiling bodies in hot springs, a woman pushing a boat through acidic water, and the funniest use of a Wilhelm scream ever, you cannot take the film for it is trying to be.Plus, the young boy will have you thinking its Joseph Gordon Levitt for the most part.Brosnan and Hamilton make it more classier than it should be, but I'll always go back to Tommy Lee Jones. After all, The Coast is Toast.
hkennedy-14802 Dantes peak movie review I am a year 10 pupil at Dromore high school and in my geography class we recently watched Dantes peak. I thought it was a fantastic movie but is very gory in some scenes so if you didn't like that type of thing this movie isn't for you. The main characters are harry, the volcanologist played by Pierce brosan, then there is Rachel the mayor of the town and also own the local café played by Linda Hamilton. Rachel has 2 children, Lauren and graham there is also the U.S.G.S team, Paul "the boss", harry, Barry and three others. The plot was that harry was sent to Dante's peak to see if there was any volcanic activity. Harry soon finds signs that the volcano is active for example dead squirrels, vegetation begin to die due sulphur dioxide and he found a couple that had been boiled up in hot springs. Harry wanted to send out an alert but Paul (the boss) wouldn't let him because it wasn't scientifically certain that it was going to erupt soon. Harry and Barry then go up to the volcano and send spider down to seen what was going on spider then stopped moving so Barry went down to fix the problem he unhooked himself from his harness and a minor earthquake occurs, rocks fall and harry breaks his leg. Later on in the film there is certain sign that the volcano is going to erupt and so they quickly call the town in to send an alert as they are in the middle of telling people what was about to happen an earthquake occurs soon the roof was falling in and the people panic and rush out the building in fear. The volcano erupts and Rachel Hs to get her kids who have drove up the mountain to save there grandma they then have to face many obstacles as there battle to get back down .when they finally make it down harry makes the decision to ram the car into this building as it was too dangerous to drive about the town ,he then gets Rachel and the kids to a safe spot and then rushes to the car to send a message to tell someone they are down there but rocks fall on top of him and he breaks his arm but pulls through and sends out the message and gets himself Rachel and her kids to safety, then him and Rachel fall in love and that's it. I did think it some parts it was unrealistic and exaggerated but was a good story, I really loved all of the gory parts and would totally recommended it if you aren't squeamish. I give Dante's peak a solid 8/10
