Tacticalin An absolute waste of money
Robert Joyner The plot isn't so bad, but the pace of storytelling is too slow which makes people bored. Certain moments are so obvious and unnecessary for the main plot. I would've fast-forwarded those moments if it was an online streaming. The ending looks like implying a sequel, not sure if this movie will get one
Kirandeep Yoder The joyful confection is coated in a sparkly gloss, bright enough to gleam from the darkest, most cynical corners.
Raymond Sierra The film may be flawed, but its message is not.
Helio In 1982 I viewed this movie and would have given it a six. It was kind of slow with mediocre acting and grand but bland sets. So I rewatched in 2018 and didn't change my opinion much but I had an appreciation for what a pioneering effort it was in making (non-Superman) comics into movies and launching certain actors to stardom. It was quaint io see Arnold in this novice role and how he matured in later films. I value the historical significance of this endeavour and look forward to the discussed continuance of Mr S in the Conan role.
maxmages So the film really surprised me. Large parts of the film come out completely without words one understands nevertheless all the Derby is not really great but very fast to savvy and very linear. The fights are really good that is a really classy male film but nevertheless all the women that can be found in there so also strike all SWJ and the the claim there are no strong women characters should necessarily look at this movie here and listen to the music the best I have ever heard in my life.
mwestphal2 Conan the Barbarian might just be a recipe for the greatest movie ever. Not only does this movie have Arnold in his prime, but it also has James Earl Jones, who might just be one of the greatest actors of all time. The film also has Max Von Sydow, which ends this film's connection to the Exorcist movies (except the scene where Conan has sex a witch and a demon comes out of her), and a whole lot of sex and violence. The musical score is absolutely amazing. Every scene has grand, epic music to go with the lavish production design, which eats up the screen like any good epic film would. This film and Excalibur, which came out a few years before this film, would be in the running for greatest musical score and production design pairing ever. What else can I say, but this movie has everything I could ever want. The movie does feel a little long at parts, but overall I would recommend this film to anyone who takes one look at the cover of the film and has an idea of what to expect, because you're going to get it.
maxastree Pseudo-classic film, features great costume work and photography from the seventies era crew, instead of the slick, commercial-appeal look of 80's action and fantasy era pictures. As has been said before, film flirts with distinctly fascist overtones throughout - eugenics, the breeding of an illiterate warrior class, fundamentalist cults, quotes from Nietzsche on the power and dominance of strength. The film's great score and visual style aren't really matched by it's lead though, as Schwarzenegger is unable to bring much drama, pathos or depth to his role as an orphaned warrior child seeking revenge. Really, the most emotive sequences are created by Basil Poladouris' soundtrack and the stylized set pieces, and there's not much of a story arc to build the film into a legitimate "epic" à la Lawrence of Arabia. Oliver Stone who wrote for the movie envisaged a series of powerhouse action-fantasy films appearing every two-three years with Schwarzenegger as the lead, but the series was followed by a garbage sequel, additionally, the fan base ridiculed Arnold's dialogue and acting chops, giving him a Razzie or whatever it is for worst actor of 1982.
