RyothChatty ridiculous rating
Gurlyndrobb While it doesn't offer any answers, it both thrills and makes you think.
Stephanie There is, somehow, an interesting story here, as well as some good acting. There are also some good scenes
Brooklynn There's a more than satisfactory amount of boom-boom in the movie's trim running time.
qmtv OK, I bought the DVD with the first 7 Saw movies. The first was decent when I saw it years ago, watching it last year, no more surprises so I thought it was just OK, a C rating for a B movie. #2 sucked full on. Crappy lighting, cinematography, editing, acting, dialogue, convoluted story. Just plain garbage. Now, #3. The best part about this movie was the chained guy, and the chained female cop. Straight up copy from Hellraiser! And I enjoyed Donnie smashing his foot, next time they should try Donnie smashing his face! Besides these scenes this movie is garbage. The cinematography was not as bad as #2. But still amateur, point and shoot. The editing is quick and garbage. The lighting is crap. The acting is horrible. The characters are garbage. Nobody acts like this. Tobin Bell seems like a decent actor, but I hate his voice, and his character and dialogue is garbage. Shawnee Smith's character is garbage. If she's crazy, then make her character crazy. But then, how the hell could they pull off all the kidnappings, and all the equipment and set up? It is impossible. It can't happen. And that is where most of the problem is. How the hell did she get into the female cops apartment without the cop noticing. Think about it! Where were these abandoned locations? The only way you can have access to locations like this is if you have a film studio paying to rent them and shooting the film, but not if you're a wackjob on a mission to teach some people with emotional problems a lesson on how to appreciate life. The female doctors acting was OK, not great. And the husband who lost his boy, this guy was plain horrible. The frozen woman was OK, but then we get a scene of her completely frozen, very stiff! The judge, OK. The black guy, well he acted terrified. The story and the twists. Now, I'm sure someone can come up with something better than this.Last two weeks I watched the first 8 Hellraiser movies. First 2 were decent because of the stories. The rest were below par mix bag of I don't know what. But at least all of them were better than Saw 2 or 3. The older I get, the more I want stories. Compelling stories, with characters that relate, and actors that can portray plausible situations, within the context of the film. Saw 3, and Saw 2 do not do that. These stories only happen because the screenwriter wrote them and the production team went ahead and filmed and produced the product for our supposed entertainment. I cannot believe that some said hey, how the hell did some sick guy and a drugged out/wacko chick pull off all these sets and traps, and kidnap all these people. Lots of equipment all around. Is Jig independently wealth? So, some points for the chain kills near the beginning of the film, minus stealing scenes from Hellraiser. This film is a complete failure. F, 1 star, garbage.
Smoreni Zmaj I loved first movie. I am aware that sequels are often worse than original, but I expected them to stick to formula that worked so well in first movie, so even if sequels have no quality they would at least be fun. I saw second Saw that pretty much keep up with first one and I could not wait to see more. I never expected such unpleasant surprise. I knew this franchise will in time most probably lose some of its awesomeness, but such drastic drop in quality between two contiguous movies really surprised me. Saw III is not so bad by itself, but in comparison with first two this is complete catastrophe. First, it is boring. Few scenes twist stomach pretty successfully, but to achieve that effect one does not need much skill. Tension, suspension and fear are nowhere to be found. Second, this movie insults my intelligence. Unlike in prequels, story is completely linear, boring and predictable. And in addition to that it's full of holes and illogicality. Characters and their actions are unconvincing, especially Jeff. He lost so much time in every room for no obvious reason. If himself was threatened in any way I could understand his hesitation, but he was not. I have no nerves to get into the details, cause it would take to long. Further, flashbacks are lousy and have no purpose in story. For those who saw previous two films they just make this one more boring and unnecessarily stretch it to almost two hours. Last and the biggest disappointment was the end. Regardless of your taste and opinion about first two Saw movies, one thing you have to acknowledge and it's genius mindfak twist that ends them both. Here, they could not make effort even to achieve that. Ending is totally predictable. I knew how it will end, but I hoped that movie made me think that on purpose so they could make even bigger surprise when it ends differently, but that did not happen. It ended just as I suspected and I felt deprived. Movie ends in manner of low-budget gore horrors. In those it's not a flaw cause they do not pretend to be more than they are - movies based on disgusting scenes that do not need intelligent plot to achieve their purpose. But in Saw franchise that present itself as intelligent mystery thriller this is unforgivable. First hour I was bored but hoping that it will get better in time. During second half I was just sad and had to force myself not to give up before the end.5/10
Gavinanimator Saw III is an amazing horror film, and one of my favorites! This movie has some of the best special effects I've ever seen! Also not to mention, some of the best traps in the entire franchise! They were gory and very abstract; my favorites were the Angel Trap, the Shotgun Collar, the Pig Juicer, and the Rack. I also liked how the story in this film was more emotional than the previous ones, I was able to feel for the characters and what they were going through. And that surgery scene looked so realistic! Man, so much detail went into the making of this film! Love it!
bh_tafe3 Well, Robert the Bruce is our hero, Donnie Wahlberg escapes...kind of, Amanda goes even more bug eyes crazy and Jigsaw buys the farm in this third Saw movie, that is vast improvement over the second installment and benefits even more from the viewer not thinking too hard about what's happening. We begin with Detective Matthews (Donnie Wahlberg), showing considerably more intelligence than Doctor "I'm-going-to-saw-my-foot-off-with-a-hacksaw" Gordon from the original, breaking his foot in order to get it out of the chain that's holding him. He limps down the hallway and... into oblivion apparently because the film fast forwards six months and not a soul has seen him in that time (this is explained in the next film).Jigsaw has returned and he would appear to have changed his method and is now setting unwinnable traps to torture people to their inevitable demise. For instance, some poor unfortunate has to pull out chains that are attached to his body in order to escape a bomb, but even if he had got the chains loose, the door was welded shut. At the crime scene we get reacquainted with Matthews' former partner Detective Allison Kerry who is inspecting the crime scene with her new partner Mark Hoffman (Costas Mandylor of Picket Fences "fame"). We feel kind of sorry for Kerry as mopes around all depressed about Matthews' disappearance. I wonder if the story will give us more insight into this interesting character who's been around since the first film of the series? Of course not! She gets abducted from her house and gets killed by another unwinnable trap, having her rib cage torn off after burning her hand in acid. We find out it's Amanda (Shawnee Smith) who's setting these unwinnable traps and...Good Lord. I'm already three paragraphs in. Better wind this up.OK, a doctor, Lynn Denlon, who has marriage issues revealed in a conversation with a man who "wants a divorce," is abducted from the hospital and wakes up with a bomb strapped to a collar on her neck that's going to blow up if Jigsaw dies before another victim finishes their test. The other victim is Jeff, a man who lost his son in a drink driving accident 3 years ago and became bitter and damaged, leading to him neglecting his daughter and all but leaving his wife. Jeff is going to have to learn to forgive as part of his test and at the end he will meet "the man responsible for the death of his child." So Jeff has to forgive a silent witness who never came forward at the trial of the drunk driver (try not to think about how stupid that is, unless Jigsaw is either telepathic or God), the judge who let the driver off lightly, and of course the driver himself. His results are mixed to say the least, but he does take the opportunity to forgive the driver. Mission accomplished I guess. In the meantime Amanda is acting more and more crazy as Lynn struggles to keep Jigsaw alive. Then we get two twists. Firstly Lynn is Jeff's wife, the man at the start who "wanted a divorce" was her lover. Secondly, this is also Amanda's test. He wanted to see if she was willing to let people live, which she isn't as she first refuses to take the collar off Lynn and then shoots her, just as Jeff comes in, who takes out Amanda with one bullet. Then we get another twist as Jeff, ing that this movie is called saw, slices Jigsaw's throat with a power saw, killing him, but not before he plays one last game from his little tape recorder. how Jigsaw told Jeff he would "meet the man responsible for the death of his child?" Well he wasn't talking about the drunk driver who ran over his son, he was talking about himself and the fact he had kidnapped Jeff's daughter and was the only person who knew where she was. Good one Jeff. You can forgive the man who killed your son, but you can't stop yourself from slicing the throat of a dying man and now your daughter's going to die. As Jigsaw dies, the collar on Lynn's neck detonates, and Jeff's left to freak out just like Adam and Matthews in the first two films as credits role.Of all the Saw movies, this probably has the victim I sympathize with the most in Jeff (Braveheart's Angus McFayden). Jeff is probably the best realized character in the whole Saw series apart from Jigsaw himself. I also for the first time was able to somewhat buy into Jigsaw's method. Jeff is being taught a positive lesson. For the first time I wonder of maybe Jigsaw is more than a crazy wannabe zen master who gets kicks out of torturing people to death and uses the delusion he's teaching people life lessons to justify it. However, that good will is lost at film's end. The last 5 minutes seriously just kills it. The guy learns nothing. Jigsaw is a very bad teacher with a very ineffective method.Saw 3 is a relatively satisfying film, and, in spite of all the threads left hanging, comes the closest of the sequels to standing up as a film in its own right. This was the last installment still involving the original creative team of Wan and Whannell, and I think they were probably expecting the people they handed the ball off to, to run a lot more creatively with it than they do.
