CheerupSilver Very Cool!!!
Nonureva Really Surprised!
Juana what a terribly boring film. I'm sorry but this is absolutely not deserving of best picture and will be forgotten quickly. Entertaining and engaging cinema? No. Nothing performances with flat faces and mistaking silence for subtlety.
Staci Frederick Blistering performances.
danielrachael The Astronaut's wife is a strange film to review. It isn't a great film- heck, I don't much of it, but it isn't bad either. The plot is basically Rosemary's baby in a science fiction template. Johnny Depp and Charlize Theron play a married couple about to have a baby when Depp, an astronaut is assigned a space mission. Something happens out there and although he returns in one shape something is amiss. The film is slow paced and doesn't really go anywhere, from what I . This is a film that should be considered only if nothing else interests you in the science fiction catalogue.
misscath-02668 Yeah, you have to suspend your disbelief while watching this movie. Most viewers knew something was off with him from the beginning. Some plot holes. Overall, a pretty good thriller. Not Johnny's best work but I'm a fan. Charlize Theron was the central figure and did a good job. Lots of references to Rosemary's baby but more of a scifi bent. Great ing cast including Joe Morton and Blair Brown. It kept my attention, good special effects. Looks like people either liked it or hated it.
MovieCraz I know this movies' been out a long time, but I saw it last night for the first time. I came into it wary after seeing the reviews it'd gotten here on IMDb, and I almost didn't watch it- but I'm glad I did.The film starts off typical; astronaut is leaving for an orbital mission in space and his wife is of course worried and distressed. But during and after he comes back from his mission, that's when things get interesting. As it progresses the movie starts to become a psychological thriller and continues to slowly build up until I was holding my breath, eyes wide on the edge of my seat, calculating how this movie would or could end. It becomes clear that there are two different paths to choose: The astronaut is really a dangerous alien who's impregnated the astronaut's wife with alien spawn, or his wife is crazy and paranoid. Either way, it made for a scary scenario. The main cast is brilliant; Johnny Depp and Charlize Theron blend so well together. (and WOW are they young in this movie!) Both actors' acting is great but I think Charlize came out shining in this one. She MADE me believe she was in agony, inwardly and outwardly, over the situation. I felt her pain, which is hard to do. The script is decent, the camera-work well-shot, and the atmosphere: tense. I really thought it was astronomical. (pun intended)The only negative thing I have to say is that the ending sort of leaves you to your own imagination. Maybe you like that, but for me, I like closure.Parents, please don't let your child watch this movie. I don't think anyone under 12 or 13 should watch it. There is a major, violent sex scene, sex themes throughout, violence, death, (shown) suicide, murder, and attempted self-abortion via pills. I personally skipped the major sex scene, cringed at the suicide, and was disturbed at the attempted abortion. So once again, when it comes to children, approach with care. Maybe watch it before them and determine for yourself whether they should or shouldn't watch it. I hope you have appreciated my review. Please leave a like if it was helpful and go look at my other reviews! Thanks!
Davis P This was one of 1999's biggest box office bombs. It's true that The Astronauts Wife isn't the best mystery/thriller ever, but I don't think it deserves all the hate it got at the time of release. I will say that I really loved Charlize Theron in her starring role as Jillian, in my opinion she bought real drama and real depth to her role, especially during the scene where she considers terminating her pregnancy with pills. In my opinion, the considered termination scene is the best acted scene and the most dramatic. No I'm not usually a big Johnny Depp fan, in real life or in his movies, I will say that I don't think he was bad in his role, but I do think that another actor could've brought more to it. The middle portion of the film does kind of crawl along and I felt that it needed to speed up in order to keep the audiences attention. Mr. Reese and his character was thought was well done and I liked the way his character was constructed and the way it was played by the actor. I also really like how the film never really tells what happened in those two minutes, often times what our imagination can conjure up can be even more interesting than what they could show us. The ending definitely is a bit mind-boggling but if you think about it, it is kind of interesting. I'll give The Astronauts Wife a 6/10. Not the best, but not as bad as most will say.
