TrueJoshNight Truly Dreadful Film
TaryBiggBall It was OK. I don't see why everyone loves it so much. It wasn't very smart or deep or well-directed.
SeeQuant Blending excellent reporting and strong storytelling, this is a disturbing film truly stranger than fiction
Guillelmina The film's masterful storytelling did its job. The message was clear. No need to overdo.
Floated2 Just Friends is a rather funny comedy simply due to the presence of Ryan Reynolds and the chemistry he has with both Amy Smart and to a latter extent Anna Faris. The film is harmless which is a good thing, since in many situations such as these real life occurrence, the film could have been far more juvenile and mean spirited. This is a problem for a comedy that centers a romantic relationship. When the focus is on other things, emotions don't matter so much, and oh, what a fun time we have. But then we come back around to the real plot, and nothing about these people's emotions seems real.Set in a simple but working plot which is set ten years after he graduated from high school a fat loser whose true love only wanted to be his friend, Chris Brander is now a record-label executive whose smarmy, womanizing ways go over in shallow L.A. Although we might already know what the end will turn out like (most romantic comedies are predictable), and simply by viewing the trailer, the journey and overall adventure is what makes this film better than it should be and better than several rom-coms. Worth a watch. As a rewatch 07/11/18' Just Friends remains a good hearted somewhat entertaining comedy. The short run time makes the film less drag on.
Irishchatter OK I thought it was getting good when Ryan Reynold's character was fat and had a story around the fact he liked this girl but can't, as she only thinks of him as just a friend. Then he becomes his sexy self and all of a sudden, I just lost interest and moved onto the next movie. I think him being fat had a better story then him being slim because you heard it all before, a good looking guy gets all the ladies and starts being completely absurd! I would've rathered to have seen Ryan Reynold's character getting slimmer in the end and then getting his true love because, I might gain interest and the fact, it makes the story go smoothly for me as the viewer!I just have to give this 1/10, I thought it was disappointing and just boring. I think this is one of Ryan Reynolds worst movie he has ever done!
mattkratz This basically serves as a vehicle for Ryan Reynolds and Amy Smart, and as romantic comedies go, it's not too bad. Anna Ferris was terrific as a crazy pop star. Reynolds gets stranded in his New Jersey hometown during the holidays and runs into his old friends, including his high school crush, who spurned him right before they graduated high school. They start to reconnect. This has several laugh-out-loud scenes, including a bed scene, a great "he shoots, he scores" transition scene, a pickup hockey game, and a scene where they try to kiss on the ice. It's a pretty good "guilty pleasure" film with good chemistry between the stars.** 1/2 out of ****
Dr_Sagan This feels like an old school comedy. And by old school I mean lots of comedies between 1980-1995.Its premise has some deep insights, but overall it's a comedy with lots of physical humor and a shallow (although some times sharp) script. In a way, someone can argue that this movie is also ...educational: Avoid the "Friend zone" with the girl you are secretly in love with. All the characters are presented with exaggeration. Not real to life.Amy Smart is lovely in this but Reynolds fails to be interesting plus he adds some Jim Carrey stunts and mannerism that don't suit him. Anna Faris is also in this and plays a wacko pop singer with great efficiency!Overall: If you catch it on TV watch it, but don't expect to be amazed.
