Comwayon A Disappointing Continuation
Cem Lamb This movie tries so hard to be funny, yet it falls flat every time. Just another example of recycled ideas repackaged with women in an attempt to appeal to a certain audience.
Juana what a terribly boring film. I'm sorry but this is absolutely not deserving of best picture and will be forgotten quickly. Entertaining and engaging cinema? No. Nothing performances with flat faces and mistaking silence for subtlety.
blackboxla The "Hellraiser" series as we know it took a new turn for the better and the worst with "Hellraiser: Inferno" and Hellseeker follows in those footsteps.Much like Part 5, Hellseeker pulls an "Angel Heart"-light on our asses and plunges its lead character, as well as the audience, into a Trippe world of visions, mind-bending reality, confused identity, flashbacks, what not. Overall, "Hellraiser: Hellseeker" did provide for some quality entertainment and I dug it as a stand alone. But much like Inferno,Dean Winters (Trevor) does OK with the material that he's given.Ashley Laurence (Kirsty) shines in the limited time she's given, it was great to see the dame kicking it again it was her best performance as Kristy id like to see her return as a female Pinhead one day. Doug Bradley (Pinhead) walks through this one; I think he also knew that Pinhead doesn't have much to do with this sequel. Sarah Jane Redmond (Gwen) does the S&M jive very well and has a belly I'd love to lick 24/7. William S. Taylor (Det. Lange) charmed me with his unique behaviour; there was something about the guy that just made me want to watch him go. he "Seven"-esque look kicks in again with the colours being washed out and the tone being all grim. It still works although it's starting to get a little tired. Bota handles his directorial duties well by slapping in potent slow motion, giving the images an effective bluish tint, using the occasional blurry cam and delivering stylish camera angles. Competent. If you liked "Hellraiser: Inferno", you'll most likely get a few hooks in the throat from this one. The flick is well shot, eerie and will mind-bang your every orifice. But if you're going in here expecting Kirsty, Pinhead and the Cenobites to be relevant factors in this hallucinatory ball game; get ready for a letdown, because they're basically window dressing to allow the makers to call this"Hellraiser".
badfeelinganger The original Hellraiser was an innovative, twisted bit of filmmaking that stands up today as one of the great horror films. This one is certainly a mixed bag as it's quite watchable and has lots of screwy visuals; despite the fact it feels a little off-kilter and for the most part doesn't make much sense. What we get in HELLSEEKER is a series of events, where some kind of violence or demonic activity occurs, only for Trevor to wake, finding it was all a dream, or a hallucination. Sometimes we have him waking up after he has already awoken. Wow, dreams within dreams. All these non-events are supposed to be deep, showing us that Trevor isn't a nice guy, there are some interesting ideas (and I really like the tone they set in the opening, but it doesn't last); but it's only really for fans of the series. The other films in the series are: Hellraiser, Hellbound: Hellraiser II, Hellraiser III: Hell on Earth, Hellraiser: Bloodline, Hellraiser: Inferno, Hellraiser: Deader, Hellraiser: Hellworld.
James Croxton A slight improvement from its predecessor but definitely not on par with any of the other films in the franchise. Sure it was great to see Kirsty Cotten once again, but the storyline was simply too "out-there" and simply not Hellraiser status.I guess my problem with this film is how it just confused the heck out of me. I am not sure if this was done on purpose or it was lack of experience by the director or even a screenwriter. Overall, this film is okay. I wouldn't say it is the worst installment in the franchise, but it is definitely far from the best.. well.. not even close to the top five. If you have some spare time that you don't care to have back, take this film for a ride and see how you like it. Maybe you'll feel different about it than I do.
Jackson Booth-Millard When I read about this seventh film in the horror series I was intrigued that the leading actress from the original first film (and the not very good first sequel) had returned, but even with her and the actor returning as the iconic villain I knew it wouldn't be good being a straight to DVD release. Basically Trevor Gooden (Dean Winters) is married to Kirsty Cotton (Ashley Laurence), who survived the events of the first and second films, and she seems to have gotten over her fears of the Cenobites, but disaster strikes when the two of them crash their car off a bridge into a river, and she supposedly died. Travor survived and due to a head injury can only seeing her inside the car before being rescued, but the police suspect foul play when the doors were discovered unlocked and Kirsty's body is missing, he is prime suspect to potential murder. A month later he starts suffering hallucinations and strange events, including the appearance of Cenobite leader Pinhead (Doug Bradley), and he learns more about himself, i.e. not being a good man having cheated on his wife with various women, and he tries to get rid of the thought of Kirsty using the puzzle box, the Lament Configuration. Before she disappears however she offers a deal to Pinhead, offering him five souls in exchange for hers, so she kills three of Trevor's mistresses and one of his friends, the friend in fact conspired to kill her for her fortune. Learning his true past shocks Trevor, and in an operating theatre he goes to he finds a covered body on the table, he assumes it is Kirsty, but then he is shocked to find it is himself, he is the fifth victim to be taken, and he has been living in limbo all the time. Discovering his past and put things back together was a mental punishment for disloyalty to his wife and self denial, so he is finally taken by force with Pinhead to spend eternity in Hell, while Kirsty is still alive, walks away from the crime scene, the river, with the puzzle box, and Trevor is made responsible for the murders, and he was apparently shot in the head. Also starring Rachel Hayward as Allison, Sarah-Jane Redmond as Gwen, Jody Thompson as Tawny, Kaaren De Zilva as Sage, William S. Taylor as Detective Lange and Michael Rogers as Detective Givens. Winters is dull to be a victim or leading man, Laurence is hardly used at all and is unconvincing, and Bradley is only on screen for short moments as Pinhead, the story is hardly worth the effort at all, it is trying too much to be like a crime film, with hardly any gore or torture to grip you it is a rubbish and pointless horror mystery thriller. Pretty poor!
