Gia Audience Reviews 3b3v1m

Tedfoldol everything you have heard about this movie is true.
Matrixiole Simple and well acted, it has tension enough to knot the stomach.
PiraBit if their story seems completely bonkers, almost like a feverish work of fiction, you ain't heard nothing yet.
Ezmae Chang This is a small, humorous movie in some ways, but it has a huge heart. What a nice experience.
Mihai Toma Gia, a rebellious young girl sets out to accomplish her dream of becoming a model thus moving from Philadelphia to New York. She had it in her hand due to her beauty and charisma but her lifestyle and her wrong decisions is what ultimately led to an unstoppable decline. Her drug abuse left her without money, friends and even family and without anybody to stand for her when she needed the most, the crude and painful ending was imminent. It's a biography which very explicitly presents many delicate moments from Gia's life, her humble beginnings, her career's climax and its fall. Although very dramatic and emotional, it was boring most of the time while the course of events was too predictable to induce any thrill or suspense. Like one girl from the movie said, it's hard to feel sorry for someone who had everything because of her beauty and threw it all away without any remorse, killing any relationship with her loved ones, forever.
Eka Herlyanti This is the second time I watched this movie. And I just found out that it is a television movie. Wow, there are so many adult scenes for a television movie and it was televised in 1998! Amazing! As a person who lives in Indonesia, I kind of jealous with the freedom in America. You know, lately the government put some rules about television program, like smoking scene and women's boobs have to be blurred. So restricted and it is so boring. Why? Okay, back to the movie. I think this biographical movie is awesome. I love all the casts and of course the real life of Gia Carangi. Wow, it amazing her life is. I see a lot of emotions in Jolie's performance. She not only shows me brave, but also melancholy state of Gia. The ending is so sad and got me teary. This movie is just perfect.
Dalbert Pringle FYI - Gia Carangi (Who!?... Never heard of her) was not (as this movie states) America's first "Supermodel".To be honest (until this depressing and annoyingly-bad movie came out), I had never, ever heard of Gia Carangi. But I'd certainly heard of Jerry Hall, Christie Brinkley, Cybill Shepherd, and Lauren Hutton, who were all recognized "Supermodels" long before this bimbo snorted her first line of cocaine. If this badly-conceived bio-movie was really supposed to be an accurate depiction of what Gia Carangi was actually like in real-life, then I'd say that she was, without a doubt, just pure white-trash, and an absolutely terrible role-model for lesbian-wannabes, as well. And if I am to take Angelina Jolie's grate-on-your-nerves portrayal of Gia at face value, then, let's face it, this high-strung crybaby was already seriously unhinged long before her downward spiral into the hell of drug addiction took place. And speaking about Angelina's f-n lousy performance as Gia - Jolie (wearing one awful-looking wig after another) was such an incompetent, scenery-chewing amateur throughout (pulling knives on people, etc.) that her character depiction made me hate Gia's guts.I also hated all of the women in Gia's life. This, of course, included her mother, Kathleen, her mentor, Wilhelmina Cooper, and especially her lesbian lover, Linda (this particular on/off relationship was nothing but a hideous, little soap opera of non-stop bitching & bickering). And, with that said - I am absolutely fed-up from hearing people heap praise and iration upon Angelina Jolie for her performance as Gia. If you ask me, it was one of the most empty-headed, insincere, and unconvincing portrayals I've ever seen. And I swear that I'll never, ever again watch another movie that stars the likes of Angelina Jolie. Never! (Bah! Who needs her?)
blanche-2 It's a shame Angelina Jolie's private life gets more publicity than her professional one because she truly is an excellent actress. She gives another compelling performance portraying model Gia Carangi in "Gia," a 1998 film produced by HBO.Gia Carangi was a dark, edgy, exotic model who stepped into a sea of blonds in the '70s and became a top model in great demand, paving the way for models like Cindy Crawford. Carangi drifted into the drug culture, and with the death of her mentor and agent, Wilhelmina Cooper in 1980, she turned to heroin. The situation only became worse when her friend, photographer Chris von Wagenheim died in a car accident, and Gia became more dependent on drugs. It got to the point where no one would book her. Scavullo, who loved her work, kindly let her do a magazine cover in 1982. She died in 1986, at the age of 26, from AIDS.The film distorts time somewhat and combines incidents. It also focuses on one relationship, with a makeup artist named Linda. Linda is Sandy Linter, whom Gia pursued, but it's not clear how much of a relationship they had. Gia apparently had sex with both sexes but is believed to be predominantly gay."Gia" is energized and made interesting by Angelina Jolie's multilayered portrayal of Gia as a childish, highly imaginative, sad young woman who loved deeply and couldn't cope with loss. Sections of Carangi's journals are read throughout and point up her strong inner life. Despite some of Gia's behavior, Jolie makes her both sympathetic and likable.Sad and thought-provoking, "Gia" is a very good film with wonderful performances by Jolie, Mercedes Ruhl, and Elizabeth Mitchell.
