Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country Audience Reviews 615j4q

Pluskylang Great Film overall
pointyfilippa The movie runs out of plot and jokes well before the end of a two-hour running time, long for a light comedy.
Geraldine The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.
Justina The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.
Blueghost None of the Star Trek feature films have been what one would call great art, even though they were entertaining at times. They had the disadvantage of needing to appeal to not just Star Trek fans, but also to a larger audience who did not know what Star Trek is all about. But ST VI breaks that mold some, and gives us an actual ST episode that looks at Star Fleet itself. Star Trek has always had a kind of law and order bent to it, and so it is that we have a mystery driving the plot and story forward. And we also a slightly more classic feel of ST as we know it in of story and characters. Here the characters act as their characters in the TV series of old. We don't necessarily see the total dynamic of how they interacted during times of crisis in the TV series, but we do see them in their roles as they progress through the adventure. The story itself comes close to skidding into Spockanian "illogic", because both Kirk and McCoy aren't really given much to do in of the overall story. In fact one wonders where this story element came from, and one wishes that perhaps a veteran on the writing team had given the Captain and the ship's Chief Surgeon something a bit more compelling to do, or with perhaps a different set of plot and story points during act II.The powers that be, in my not so humble opinion, probably had six films scheduled until the new TV series could take hold, and then the feature films would focus on the defunct and tragically crippled "Star Trek the Next Generation".As far as the minutiae of Trek-details go, well, there's lots for the fans to argue about in of the setting, props and general zeitgeist. Me, as a die-hard "dyed in the wool" fan, I don't have too many bones to pick with this film, other than wonder why this amount of script doctoring and film doctoring could not have been given to the previous films. I think both fans and general movie goers deserved it.So why wasn't it done? Simply put the Kirk-Spock era, at the time, was probably seen as working overtime, and the Trek powers that were probably thought that Picard and crew would take hold in the hearts and minds of classic and neo-Trek fans alike. But, as time and criticism has shown, this is not so, and the fault lies on the deliberate sociological and social-psychologists who tried to rework the general setting of Star Trek until it was broken. And now, at the time of this writing, the last of the three JJ Abrams "Trek" films is in the theatre, where the characters are played somewhat as caricatures of the original crew. One should note that these films are making a kind of over-the-top "hearkening back" to what mister Abrams believes classic Trek fans think of Star Trek. This fan says he's got it wrong, and should have watched ST VI, but this classic Trek fan also realizes that mister Abrams is making a film for a younger generation. Which is even more curious given the directing style and overall thrust, feel and look of the films. But getting back to ST VI, it is a film for the fans, and a kind of tribute to both show and the fans who ed it. In a sense ST 1 to ST VI were the missing infamous 4th season. And having the entire crew on the bridge with classic Sound FX and the classic tune humming in the background, was a good send off and tribute to both show and the fans who were there from the beginning with the family and friends manually hand cranking a cathode ray tube TV dial to see what Kirk and the crew of the starship Enterprise were up to every week. But again, all in all, ST VI, even though it's meant more for the fans than the general public, feels a little weak and marginally off kilter in execution. The space sequences could have been sharper. The location sequences could have been shot differently with a different story, but, that's neither here nor there. The creative team picked a certain script, shot it, and we're given what they produced. Not a bad film, but for a series finale, it could have been "bigger" without over-blowing the story to another "save the galaxy / universe" kind of tripe so frequent in other sci-fi shows and films. All in all a decent watch. I would have shot it differently, but that's another post for another time.
Maddyclassicfilms Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country is directed by Nicholas Meyer. The film stars William Shatner, Christopher Plummer, David Warner, Leonard Nimoy, DeForest Kelly, Nichelle Nichols, James Doohan, George Takei, Walter Koenig, Brock Peters, Iman and Kim Cattrall. This final big screen adventure for the original crew is a fitting end. This film is a good blend of action, adventure, intrigue and comedy. The Federation and The Klingon Empire are tentatively beginning to make peace with one another. There are some within Starfleet who don't trust the Klingons, there are also Klingons who don't want to make peace. Kirk(William Shatner) and his crew are sent to negotiate with Klingon Chancellor Gorkon(David Warner). ing the crew as helmsman(Sulu has now been promoted to Captain)is Vulcan Lt. Valeris(Kim Cattrall). The Chancellor's ship is fired upon and Federation personal beam aboard and assassinate the Chancellor. Kirk and McCoy(DeForest Kelley) beam aboard and try and help, but they are charged with his murder and sent to a Klingon penal colony. The crew must try and uncover the identity of the real assassins and rescue Kirk and McCoy.They must also deal with a villainous Klingon General called Chang(Christopher Plummer). The cast are all superb and the film shows that to achieve peace enemies must try and trust each other before there can be even a hope of peace. Gorkon knows the negotiations won't be easy, but he is willing to try despite that. Kirk is angry and distrustful due to what happened to his son David, but he soon learns that he must set aside his hate so there can be a better future. There would be more big screen adventures with Captain Picard and his crew, but this is the last time we see the original crew all together. That final scene on the bridge is very touching.
joshuablumhagen A great movie with cold war parallel and a dark tone that is darker than most star trek movies but still remains as great as ever. Bothe Deforest Kelly puts in one of his last performances and it goes over great. The three leads have great chemistry with each other. The Writing and direction by Nicholas Meyer are spot on and work with the dark material. Christopher Plumber brings a suspenseful presence to the villain with some Shakespearian dialogue that adds a level of gravitas that s the gigantic theme of the movie. The cold war theme goes well with the story and mirrors history well. Overall the movie is acted good, shot good, written good, directed good and wrapped into a great cold war theme with great effects. Definitely worth a watch and one of the best Star Trek movies to date.
Terryfan Star Trek 6: The Undiscovered Country is one of my favorite films in the Star Trek series and it is one of the best films in Star Trek. This being the final film to feature the cast of the original Star Trek series Captain Kirk (William Shatner) Mr.Spock (Leonard Nimoy) Dr.McCoy (DeForest Kelley) Scotty (James Doohan) Mr.Chekov (Walter Koenig) Uhura (Nichelle Nichols) also Mark Lenard reprise his role as Sarek Mr.Spock's Father along with Michael Dorn who plays Klingon Defense Attorney Kurtwood Smith as Federation President along with Lt.Valeris (Kim Cattrall) The plot has the classic Who Done it Theme as the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise are send by Starfleet to escort Chancellor Gorkon (David Warner) along with his daughter Azetbur (Rosanna DeSoto) and General Chang (Christopher Plummer) through Federation Space however things go out of hand in a hurry as we learn there is more to this mystery than it realize the plot becomes more a mystery and surprise to say the least. They did a very well balance story that you never could guess what happensThe acting is very strong as well as each cast member gives a well respected performance the cast help tells the story with their characters and they all did a great job.The music in the film is top notch Star Trek has always been known for great music and this film is no different it really helps makes the film famous with each piece of music written to match the story Also I love the final battle close to the climax of the film it has you on the edge of your seat it is one of the best battles of Star Trek and the tension is like riding a roller coaster that you have to watch to believe Star Trek 6 serves as the final film with the original cast and it deserves a lot of respect the cast did a great job with this last movie and it is a great send off to the original crew With great acting, a original story that is tense and plot twist you won't see coming this is your film and for all fans of Star TrekI give Star Trek 6 The Undiscovered Country an 10 out of 10
