TrueJoshNight Truly Dreadful Film
Lovesusti The Worst Film Ever
Borgarkeri A bit overrated, but still an amazing film
Livestonth I am only giving this movie a 1 for the great cast, though I can't imagine what any of them were thinking. This movie was horrible
maureen-andersson-1 I came across this movie quite by chance on Netflix and decided to watch it because I like the actors who play in it, especially Joaquim De Almeida who is a prolific polyglot (I recommend "La cage dorée" which takes place in Paris and Portugal). And I have enjoyed other films by Norman Jewison such as "Moonstruck". I enjoy a good fairy tale, but I found the heroine in Only You to be more annoying than moving. At least it helped put me to sleep when I was sick in bed!
Maddyclassicfilms Only You is directed by Norman Jewison, is written by Diane Drake, has music by Rachel Portman. The film stars Marisa Tomei, Robert Downey Jr, Bonnie Hunt, Joaquim de Almeida, Adam Le Fevre and Billy Zane. When she was a teenager, Faith(Marisa Tomei)was told by a fairground fortune teller the name of the man she is meant to be with. That man is Damon Bradley. Years later Faith is now engaged to a dull man and it looks like she will spend the rest of her life with him, that is until she takes a phone call from the airport for her fiancé from one of his classmates called Damon Bradley. Faith rushes to the airport only to discover he has already got on his flight to Italy.Faith and her sister-in-law Kate (Bonnie Hunt)fly to Italy to find him. Faith meets a man who says he is Damon Bradley(Robert Downey Jr),it turns out he isn't but by then the pair have fallen in love, can Faith accept that Bradley may not be her soulmate after all? While they are in Italy Kate has a romantic adventure of her own with the charming Giovanni(Joaquim de Almeida). Kate is married to Larry (Fisher Stevens)there hasn't been any romance in their relationship for quite a while and Kate has lost her self esteem and feels unloved. It's not that Larry doesn't love her, it's just that he isn't the flowers and moonlight dancing type. Kate falls for Giovanni but in her heart she still loves Larry. This is a film to watch when you need cheering up, it's romantic, funny and has some beautiful Italian locations. Robert and Marisa make a perfect romantic couple and there is a kissing scene between them that is so ionate and sexy.Bonnie Hunt is superb as the friend who has a romantic adventure of her own and begins to feel happy again for the first time in a long time.Billy Zane is hysterical as the tanned hunk who may well be the real Damon Bradley.
jn1010 This film is not as sexy as many, nor plot heavy as others BUT, a word in which myriad events can turn around (Jonah 1:2-4)!!... BUT, if you want a movie that has characters with ion, characters with gusto, a dreamy plot, a classic story of Boy gets girl, boy loses girl, boy gets girl... this is the Rom COM of ALL ROM COMs. Why?? So many have said it in other scenarios, but for 21 years I have watched it with my wife & it reminds us of first impressions & how they bring so many people together & so many others who never continue to find out about others. (Yes, it was love at first sight when I saw her but a month or so before I even knew her name. I actually fell for her cause if I have not twisted my ankle in track, I would never had met HER.)AND THEN....there is Italy. Like so many other cinema aficionados have elucidated, the beauty of Italy, the might of Rome, the terraces of the East coast on the way south to Positano, the bright Tuscan sun...well , after awhile we finally went to Italy & it was truly 'Only You' & more. A beautiful country, etc. FINALLY, the plot. OK, the plot does not seem to be the deepest of social expectations, more like a mystery trying to find Damon Bradley. BUT, in the end, the plot speaks volumes about human foibles. We think we want this, we want that, we plan this & that & yet, what we really needed was there in front of our eyes the whole time, it just was not what WE wanted. We had FAITH but in the wrong person, place or thing.... BUT, no matter what......it's a movie to enjoy with someone you enjoy! Ciao, Baby
C S This movie is so cute and so endearing, that I find it possible to watch frequently and still love it. Robert Downey Jr. is damn sexy to boot! The main character has it set in her mind from various childhood experiences with the supernatural that she is destined to be with one particular man, a Damon Bradley. But as she matures she "settles" for a foot doctor and they become engaged. Then one day, when a friend of her fiancé's calls, she gets his number and his name, Damon Bradley. Then the search takes them to Italy to find her soulmate! She is a wacky individual who thinks she knows what is best and doesn't want any regrets, so I find her believable. Her silly best friend is Bonnie Hunt and she is hilarious. This is reminiscent of romantic movies of old, and has enough twists to keep you interested through the movie, as well as their romantic tension. I love this movie, and have loved it for years. Great for teens, which is when I found this movie, but I still love it.
