Already Tomorrow in Hong Kong Audience Reviews aj4g

BroadcastChic Excellent, a Must See
Kamila Bell This is a coming of age storyline that you've seen in one form or another for decades. It takes a truly unique voice to make yet another one worth watching.
Marva-nova Amazing worth wacthing. So good. Biased but well made with many good points.
Billy Ollie Through painfully honest and emotional moments, the movie becomes irresistibly relatable
kennyli Hong Kong itself is the 3rd character in this moving and intimate story, as it gives the rich foundation and backdrop for these two characters to ignite and fall in love with one another. Believable and authentically portrayed.I don't understand the strong negative reviews, particularly those that seem to be scoring it against a criteria not relevant to this film. I make no comparison or judgment against other films in scoring this, but simply on merit and based on what I experience of this film... which is a great appreciation for the work, feeling, and authenticity that all involved in this film must have given to produce such a personable film.
ComedyFan2010 A romance which is very realistic and makes one want to watch without having much action happening. The movie is basically them just spending time together and talking. About nothing really, just like in Seinfeld. This is basically what makes the movie charming. It is the realistic view on how people get to know each other. It is hard to point out why they have feelings for each other. But there is definite chemistry. Not surprising since the main actors are a couple in real life. I guess it is the kind of situation where you feel feelings yet don't know yet what to do about them. In this situation it is even harder since the characters are in serious relationships. Should they risk what they already have for what seems to be a big love or risk having the big love for the comfortable relationships. Loved the acting, of course the chemistry shouldn't have been to hard since they are really together, but there is also all the facial expressions .The scenery is great. One wants to visit Hong Kong when seeing how beautiful it is. I usually have no issues with inconclusive movie endings, but here I wish they have done a bit more.
ReganRebecca In 1995 Richard Linklater released Before Sunrise, a romantic film about two young people who meet abruptly in Europe and over the course of an evening fall in love as they walk and talk. The magic of the film is in its very simplicity, bare as it is of special effects or overly dramatic plotting. It's spurred a generation of imitators that all keep trying to capture the magic and the chemistry of that movie and unfortunately most can't survive the comparison to that wonderful film. Already Tomorrow in Hong Kong is a movie made in the wake of Before Sunrise. Though the details of the people and the setting are different this is ultimately a walking and talking and falling in love movie. Ruby (Jamie Chung) is an American of Chinese descent who is planning to meet her friends for a drink but who can't locate the bar on her gps-less phone. Overhearing her dilemma, Josh (Bryan Greenberg), a white American expat, offers to walk her to her location. Over the course of their walk a connection sparks between them though when they arrive at their location Josh reveals something which sends Ruby into a rage and the two part on bad , only to be reunited completely by accident a year later when they meet on a ferry. Movies like this always rest on the strength of the characters and the chemistry of the actors and sadly both are really lacking here. Ruby, and Josh in particular, are not that interesting. Also, despite that the fact that the actors were engaged at the time of filming, they bizarrely lack chemistry. Ruby seems (rightly) defensive and sharp tongued a lot of the time, which makes sense since Josh is a complete stranger and she's in a foreign country, but on the flip side it's confusing why Josh would keep making pains to try to get to know her when, at least initially, she isn't interesting. Emily Ting shows promise as a director, but I can't help wishing she had chosen a more original plot that wouldn't suffer comparisons to a movie that has been so lauded and is held so dear for so many.
theweffy I give this movie two stars because as many have already pointed out, the scenery is exquisite and makes me want to visit Hong Kong. Although it sounds dangerous. I would run the risk of running into these two and dying of boredom. The two main characters' banter is extremely awkward and wooden. It makes you realize it's probably pretty hard to write good dialogue so I have a better appreciation for filmmakers who do. These two sound like they are actually Barbie dolls and children are speaking through them. For example:Boy: what are you doing here? Girl: I actually live here now. Boy: what? You moved here? To Hong Kong?I guess in case the audience fell asleep and forgot where the movie was set in. There are some problems that I had with the movie. Mainly how painful listening to the characters talking to each other which is the main focal point of the movie. I feel like I maybe could see what they were trying to go for and the premise is promising.. but you really need great writing to hold the interest of the audience. Too bad this fell very short. It's not saying much when the saving grace of a film is looking at the natural beauty of the setting its in - nothing the filmmaker can take much credit for, other than having access to a nice camera.
