Steineded How sad is this?
KnotStronger This is a must-see and one of the best documentaries - and films - of this year.
Abbigail Bush what a terribly boring film. I'm sorry but this is absolutely not deserving of best picture and will be forgotten quickly. Entertaining and engaging cinema? No. Nothing performances with flat faces and mistaking silence for subtlety.
ne Odetta It's simply great fun, a winsome film and an occasionally over-the-top luxury fantasy that never flags.
forshorn This campy but well-written and well-played film was hated when it came out. I thought I was the only one who liked it! But Prince and Jerome Benton are a great team with overtones of Bob Hope and Bing Crosby. Prince's character may be a bit ridiculous, a foppish, mugging gigolo in , but he plays it with such conviction that he makes it work. Maybe it works so well because the movie never takes itself too seriously and doesn't pretend to make sense. It has a feel like "Some Like it Hot" - good-natured fantasy - and the black and white accentuates this retro cool. Like other viewers, I've always found I could watch this movie again and again. It's like "Rocky Horror" that way.
Andy Unger This movie is not just a reminder of someone who was at the very peak of his powers, Prince, but also of a time when it seemed the Minneapolis maestro could not set a foot wrong. Then of course came the dreadful reviews, and that legacy has unfortunately stuck- even two decades on...So let's redress the balance here!I was lucky enough to see Prince and the Revolution live in London the same summer as this movie was released (1986), and the humour, naughtiness, and rapport was the same on stage as is seen in the movie; especially between Prince and Jerome Benton.Couple of interesting trivia facts: "Tricky" (Jerome Benton's character) was also the subject of a song by Prince offshoots The Time- a wonderful wacky solid funk track that again illustrates the humour here.Additionally the movie was originally shot in colour- only changed to black and white (on a whim?...only P.R.N. can answer that), which I'm sure would have looked absolutely amazing- time for a colourful re-release Warners?
mwmvdlinden Price made a cult movie, choosing black and white.Kristen Scott, is brilliance (or: OK, trying to the end) in silly romance as in the movie, without her, it would not be the same. That makes this movie worded, and to watch over, enjoyable for several times (especialy with the Tricky things). To put some more lines, because I hate to involve your own experience on the film. It is a beautiful film to watch over if you mist it in the 80's and was did do (and liked) his 'Purple Rain'. For sure this is nothing like that, but it is still a movie treasure of a various artist. Ik like the untimed moment.
LAsh100000 A lot of people don't seem to like this movie. For instance, it bombed at the box office, critics dissed it, & it was nominated for (& won) a few Razzies. Even today, people don't see this movie for the gem it truly is...& it's quite a shame, really."Under The Cherry Moon" is one of my favorite movies, much less my favorite Prince movies. There are many funny scenes & lines that keep me busting up into hysterics! (But I won't give any away--YOU have to see them yourself.) The only thing I found disappointing about this movie was that Prince's character Christopher was killed at the end. I didn't think it was a very appropriate ending for a comedy movie, not to mention it made me cry a little...But other than that, this movie is perfect for watching when you're in a foul mood, or just need a good laugh. Do trust me, it's not as bad as people say it is!
