The Skeleton Dance Audience Reviews 5nq2o

StunnaKrypto Self-important, over-dramatic, uninspired.
Huievest Instead, you get a movie that's enjoyable enough, but leaves you feeling like it could have been much, much more.
Mischa Redfern I didn’t really have many expectations going into the movie (good or bad), but I actually really enjoyed it. I really liked the characters and the banter between them.
Logan By the time the dramatic fireworks start popping off, each one feels earned.
Foreverisacastironmess In it's own small way, this could be seen as the darkest animation that Disney ever made... I know there was probably no other choice at the time, but I love the way it's in black and white, tones, they add enormously to the macabre charm and darkly comic tone. The animation is mostly great and everything to be seen is classically spooky in design. I really loved the Gothic opening sequence with the church, and the eerie howling of the dog by the full moon, and the animation of the leaves and weeds blowing realistically in a chill breeze looked very impressive and was a great atmospheric touch. The only thing I didn't care for in the whole short was the two yowling cats. I found them annoying, and their design just looked sloppy and ugly! They looked like Felix the Cat. I loved how the blank and faceless forms of skeletons were instantly given mischievous and just perhaps malicious personality by the simple jangling of their bones clacking together. And of course those moves! The moments when the skeletons will suddenly rush right up to the screen was kinda startling actually! Particularly if you're watching for the first time. It's like they're coming right at you! I bet that gag had a few little kids in tears way back when!(good) The hilarious rhythm jaw-chomping was especially catchy & bizarre! I can personally see why some of the movie theatres of the olden days opted not to show it. I don't find it to be overly morbid or anything, I do see the lightness of it and laugh when I'm supposed to-such as the bit where one of the skeletons, rudely startled by a most insensitive owl, is understandably annoyed and hurls his hard bony skull at the inconsiderate buzzard to shut him up-hitting him squarely and balding him in the process! The old-time, ghoulish revelry of the skeletons was a blast and pretty funny, but I also found the things undeniably creepy. There's an underlying borderline disturbing kind of a feeling to this entire picture, at least that is how took it. And it's that dark yet jovial quality that I liked the most and found interesting and cool about it. It was a much more refined, ordered kind of surreal eeriness than you'd get in say, the early Fleisher shorts. This skeleton Dance didn't particularly make me want to feel cheerful, it made me feel vaguely sad almost... I mean, what on earth do skeletons have to dance about? They're dead! And death is always serious, even when it's merrily presented in the guise of an all-dancing quartet of spooks in a six minute animated short for children. And a blooming fantastic one at that!
Michael_Elliott Skeleton Dance, The (1929) *** 1/2 (out of 4) A Disney Silly Symphony short has four skeletons getting out of their graves to dance, which scares the fur off two black cats. This is a very imaginative short that features some wonderful animation. Disney is credited with the direction duties but having seen a few shorts by Iwerks it really seems that he is directing it. The movie runs at an extremely fast pace as there's never a dry moment or a moment where something isn't going on. The highlight is without a doubt the scene where the cats loose their hair after seeing the skeleton. From what I've read it appears people in 1929 thought this was too ghoulish for children and I guess they were somewhat right for their time.
didi-5 This short film was the first of the Silly Symphony series, which ran under the Disney banner from a decade from 1929 and proved to be an excellent training ground for animation techniques which would become the springboard into Snow White and the later features.Even though the distributor at the time dismissed 'The Skeleton Dance' with the terse telegram 'More Mice' (a reference to the Mickey cartoons which had just started a few months before), this film is inventive, extremely funny, marries action and sound perfectly (and , this was when talkies were still very much in their infancy), and is an absolute hoot even after all these years. So what's it about? Well, it is about skeletons dancing. And that's about it. But you can see the influence this film had on later animators (there is a sequence in Monty Python for example which references this film quite closely) and there is no doubt that it is a lot of fun.
Angelfood Skeleton Dance along with The Incredibles are a true classic of the animated genre. The short holds up very well in 76 years. The music is great, the dancing skeletonrific, drawings spooky! Come on, watch it now! You won't regret seeing it once in your life! You haven't lived life till you have seen this short...The owl howling, the skeletons dancing, the famous close up is enough to make you a Disney fan forever. It's really unforgettable. When you've seen it, you might never erase it from your memory.Disney should get more Oscars for this excellent, excellent short. :DWonderful.
