Bob_the_Hobo I'd heard that "From Mexico with Love" had been called the Mexican answer to "Rocky", so it went straight on my list of films to see. I was glad it did.Kuno Becker plays Hector, a cotton-picking teenager who makes a meager wage working for the cruel landowner Big Al (Stephen Lang). One day Hector stumbles upon Big Al's son boxing, and Hector gets in the ring. Throughout the film, Hector's boxing career grows with the help of his trainer Billy (Bruce McGill).FMwL brings nothing new to the tired genre of boxing, but its simple magic through actors like McGill and Becker that make it stand out as a fine independent addition. McGill is truly exceptional, showing us yet again that he is criminally underrated. Stephen Bauer and Stephen Lang turn in great performances as well, and Becker more than holds his own on-screen with actors like this.A very well-done drama that would make a fine Saturday-afternoon viewing with the family.

me-ga-sa I watched "Goal! The dream begins" and loved it really much so I wanted to watch this movie also and was expecting something similar. In "From Mexico with love" there is very little action. I wanted to watch it with my husband but he survived only 15 min of it and I had to go on watching alone. My husband was right by quitting to watch it because it didn't get better till the very end. I found the movie very boring, it couldn't make me interested in it. The story is too simple, I was expecting the main character to achieve something more than that. Maybe this movie is more for the immigrants of USA, they can relate with it...

gabitha13 This movie is dedicated to my father who ed away in 2006. So i guess you could say that i have a bias opinion but i do not care Everyone should go and see this movie. It has a great message behind it and the cast is awesome! I can tell you this with 100 percent certainty because i have already seen it and i fell instantly in love. It follows a story that we often hear so much about, an illegal immigrant just trying to do an honest job and help take care of his family. The starring role of Hector is played by the star of Goal the dream begins and if anyone has seen that you know the pure skill that this actor has inside of him and the ion that he brings to the screen. I don't know how long that i have been waiting for this movie to be released but it is definitely about time and i cant wait to go and see it. It should be released in early 2009 do make sure to go and check it out.

movielover017 I recently had the pleasure of attending a screening of "From Mexico With Love." No compromises here. The film takes the hot button topic of illegal immigration and skillfully blends it with a multiplicity of human emotions to create an all around fulfilling story."From Mexico With Love" is without a doubt one of the better-cast films of late. There are no weak links. Each and every character adds something significant to the story and each and every actor is outstanding. Kudos must go to a great ensemble cast. Kuno Becker deserves the attention he has received from such respected media critics as Roger Ebert, who said of Kuno Becker's performance in "Goal! The Dream Begins" – 'Kuno has not only star quality but something more rare, likability. He makes us want his character to succeed.' I couldn't agree more. Steven Bauer, one of my long-time favorite actors, is back in top form and his acting in the movie is reminiscent of his award winning performances in "Traffic" and "Scarface." It is nice to watch a film that relies on story instead of outrageous special effects. Don't get me wrong; I enjoy the summer Hollywood blockbusters, as much as the next guy, but at the end of the day it is refreshing to watch a film with a meaningful story. "From Mexico With Love" is a film that shows we don't need to go offshore to find an independent film with heart and a meaningful story.Oh yeah, and the fight sequences were the best I have ever seen. The filmmakers used a new device that allowed the fighter's punches to literally come through the screen. It was awesome.
