RipDelight This is a tender, generous movie that likes its characters and presents them as real people, full of flaws and strengths.
StyleSk8r At first rather annoying in its heavy emphasis on reenactments, this movie ultimately proves fascinating, simply because the complicated, highly dramatic tale it tells still almost defies belief.
Erica Derrick By the time the dramatic fireworks start popping off, each one feels earned.
Sienna-Rose Mclaughlin The movie really just wants to entertain people.
Roberta Parry I picked up season 2 very cheaply because I had heard good things, and after watching it and getting a few chuckles I then watched it online from season 1 so.. I guess I enjoyed it? I mean, I must have. But truthfully I very little from the whole series. I can't think of any parts that made me cackle aloud like a drunken witch, which is what I look for in a sitcom. The exception would be Jeff's leg saga, and I think that was mostly because his storyline in that episode was so incredibly BBC that it took me straight back to the 90s/00s, which is clearly not what this show is about. However, I have also tried to watch many, many sitcoms, both US and UK, where I've watched a few episodes and couldn't be bothered watching any more - Coupling was not one of those, and while I can't push it as a favourite sitcom, I can definitely push it as better than most
daaron I've seen a few episodes of the first season of Coupling (UK version), and I honestly can't understand why the Brits love it so much. The humor relies entirely on one-liner jokes, backed up with a cheap canned laugh-track. It reminds me of the dozens of forgettable stupid sitcoms that have come and gone over the years; in all, nothing special here. Now, I certainly don't mind infantile humor or sex jokes (quite the contrary), but they've got to actually be funny to make me laugh. I barely cracked a smile during the painful hour-and-a-half I devoted to the first few episodes of Coupling I endured before I started fast-forwarding and finally gave up altogether. (And yes, I'm referring to the original UK version.) The people who thought this show was "hilarious" have clearly never seen a minute of Arrested Development, Curb Your Enthusiasm, or Newsradio.I started watching Coupling because of the show's writer Steven Moffat, whose unforgettable, brilliant work on Doctor Who and Jekyll made me crave more. But this type of writing is clearly not his strong suit. Moffat's dramatic and sci-fi writing is superb; unfortunately, Coupling was a waste of his time and mine.
biba_yu This is, by far, the best comedy with best lines I've ever watched, and maybe the best of all considering relationships between men and women. I simply couldn't stop laughing and it's hard to make some more describing comment for this big piece of comedy art. It's simply impressive how besides very open language and pretty open conversations about anything in this relationship and sex area, there is nothing offensive in the script, and how almost every sentence is hilariously funny. ALthough all main characters are really great, I am almost more impressed with female characters because in many series of this (or any) type, they tend to be cliché, plain boring or stupid, or just annoying, but not these girls. They are cool as much as male characters even though writer is a guy. And that's just wonderful! Total recommendation, a must see!
mikeycbaby I've seen the show and I think it's hilarious! I could see why some people might compare it to Friends, particularly if you added a pinch of Sex and the City and a dash of Three's Company. Otherwise, I don't see it having a genuinely American counterpart. It's a clever show that is both intelligent and ridiculously funny and very much dispels the myth of "Brit Wit" being dry or having an acquired taste. It's a shame that Richard Coyle didn't continue the role of "Jeff" through the entire series. His character definitely was the comic relief and if you were to compare the show to Three's Company, he certainly was the "Chrissy", albeit more absurdly sex-crazed. I highly recommend this show to anyone who is interested in interpersonal relationships (both seriously and for poking fun at).
