The Green Hornet Audience Reviews 3o2s1w

Matialth Good concept, poorly executed.
Dynamixor The performances transcend the film's tropes, grounding it in characters that feel more complete than this subgenre often produces.
Grimossfer Clever and entertaining enough to recommend even to of the 1%
Roy Hart If you're interested in the topic at hand, you should just watch it and judge yourself because the reviews have gone very biased by people that didn't even watch it and just hate (or love) the creator. I liked it, it was well written, narrated, and directed and it was about a topic that interests me.
rudge49 I watched this one faithfully during its prime time run those forty or so years ago (egad!). On our old black and white set of course. I was a senior in high school so my sole purchase of tie in merchandise was the Al Hirt album "The Horn meets the Hornet" with him and Van Williams (in costume) on the cover. As a True Believer I quickly grew tired of "Batman's" campiness, found "The Green Hornet" being played straight a welcome change, and having grown up when the memory of Radio was still very fresh in many people's minds, I had the image of Radio as this magical time that I had missed out on. There was something of a nostalgia and trivia craze in the mid 1960s, "The Green Hornet" was an attempt to cash in on that, and a well executed one too. The show had three stars, Van Williams, Bruce Lee and Black Beauty. And Wende Wagner was mighty appealing too. I have read various version as to why it wasn't renewed, my one acquaintance who had some with the TV world said that studio and network executives are all too often not as clever as we think they are and they think they are, even popular shows are cancelled. And the studio's refusal to release the show on VHS-oops, DVD despite Bruce Lee's cult status is also hard to fathom. So if you find it you will be seeing a fairly well written well acted adventure/crime fighting program with fairly high production values that IMHO has "classic" status.
animal_8_5 This was meant to be an action-adventure series about the grand-nephew of Texas Ranger John Reid (better known as The Lone Ranger) and a stacked luxury car named "Black Beauty", but ended up being a vehicle for the great Bruce Lee and his amazing exhibitions of the martial arts. While it didn't have the hilarious campiness of William Dozier's other series "Batman", it did have some goofiness about it. I recall one show featuring Canadian actor Larry D. Mann as some kind of freaky space dude who landed at Britt Reid's home to negotiate their takeover of humanity through the Daily Sentinel. This episode also showed Reid interrupting his TV station's programming via some broadcast console in his living room (yeah, no home should be without one) to warn viewers to take shelter and stay calm. The fact they had this false floor in Britt Reid's garage that clamps onto that bitchin' sports car, so that the floor can turn upside down and allow Black Beauty to roar out and save the day was kinda fun. Oddly, the Reid estate seems to be within a block of a seedy area of Central City, as Green Hornet, Kato and the rolling arsenal fly out from behind a billboarded wall, onto a conveniently abandoned street!!Of course, we can forgive all the wacky inconsistencies of the show, when we see the great Bruce Lee in action. Well worth sitting through all the silliness just to see that. How sad sexy Wende Wagner watched her career nosedive after Green Hornet. I always liked the idea of a fighting reporter like Mike Axford. Britt Reid must have been a one-of-a-kind publisher, because I just couldn't imagine a maverick like Axford working for control-freaks like William Randolph Hearst. Did I mention that I liked Bruce Lee?
ae7641 You would have to add ABC and 20th Century Fox to the list of the most stupid business people. They did not know what they had when they had "The Green Hornet." A movie with Bruce Lee would be bigger than Batman, but they did not make it. Lee was very popular in more than one county and a movie with Kato and the Hornet against a group of super villans would still be watched and making tons of money today. They could get someone else, but that would be like replacing Tiger Woods or Ali and it could never be as popular without Bruce Lee. Why did they not see the goldmine they had? If they had the brains, we would have a lot of great Bruce Lee and Hornet films to watch.
maguskamish If you consider that this one season series ran in the mid '60s and try to the quality of the typical TV shows of that era, this was a pretty good show. Bruce Lee (Kato) was able to show off his Martial Arts and acting abilities and Van Williams (Green Hornet) was a better actor than many current actors. It is also clear that the people behind the scenes were the same as those from the 'Batman and Robin' series with the same effects music, same scene transition stills and (NOT A TRUE SPOILER) in episode 13 "The Secret Of The Sally Belle", the thugs are even seen to be watching an episode of Batman on TV. A True Cult Classic that scores a 4 out of 5 in my book.
