Curapedi I cannot think of one single thing that I would change about this film. The acting is incomparable, the directing deft, and the writing poignantly brilliant.
Teddie Blake The movie turns out to be a little better than the average. Starting from a romantic formula often seen in the cinema, it ends in the most predictable (and somewhat bland) way.
Kayden This is a dark and sometimes deeply uncomfortable drama
Cristal The movie really just wants to entertain people.
The Original Spice Girl I had such high hopes for this. Although I gave up on the books as I simply lost interest, I hoped that the TV-version would be better. Sadly, it is not. Del Toro said in an interview that he wanted this to be a series, rather than a movie trilogy, as that gave more room for character- and story development. But what use is that when the story hardly moves forward and the characters are so stereotypical that you really don't care about their backstories (in fact they, and their dialogue are so ridiculous that it's sometimes hard to watch). Or when their development is so predictable that you start checking your Facebook feed whenever they try to delve into the histories of characters you don't care about. It actually came to the point whee I started disliking the people I was supposed to care about, and began hoping for them to die (but of course they don't, no matter what).Yet I kept watching, having been led to believe that there only would be three seasons. I regret that now, as it turns out they couldn't fit all the failed attempts to stop the Strigoi (ridiculous name) from taking over the US. And yes, the many, many failed attempts get incredibly tedious. So no, Mr. Del Toro. You should have gone for the movie trilogy. I'm sure that would have been less silly and boring, and far more interesting.
Arsonfire This show is my guilty pleasure, it has massive plot holes, terrible acting and hilariously bad scripts. However with all its failings it is entertaining, if you like B-movies and so bad it is good type of films/shows this is something for you. If you want something deadly serious and believable stay well clear, this show will not be for you.
SnoopyStyle Dr. Ephraim Goodweather (Corey Stoll) is a CDC epidemiologist. His marriage is falling apart. He and his Canary Team, Jim Kent (Sean Astin) and Dr. Nora Martinez, are called in to JFK. They find a plane full of dead, a few survivors, some worms, and an ornate box filled with dirt. It's the start of an invasion by an ancient evil. Abraham Setrakian is an elderly Holocaust survivor and pawn store owner specializing in buying silver to prepare for this day. Vasiliy Fet is a rat catcher. Eldritch Palmer, owner of the massive Stoneheart Group, has used his fortune to help the Master in exchange for eternal life. Petty criminal Gus Elizalde and hacker Dutch Velders are two of the many co-conspirators who are clueless to the true nature of the invasion. Eph and his ragtag team must battle The Master in his many forms and his vampire acolyte Thomas Eichhorst.Guillermo del Toro is the big name in this TV series. He wrote the books and set up the show. There is an intriguing monster look. The story is problematic but able in of writing. The overall idea that people are out for themselves is fine. Sometimes, it's taken too far but I get the premise. There are other and much worst problems. The first is the very specific NYC locations paired with the very obvious non-NYC Toronto area shooting locations. It's all wrong and makes the show look wrong. A simple fix would be less specificity with the locations. There's no point in it anyways if they're not shooting there. The second is the kid. He wins the award for the most annoying and clueless character on TV. He's played as an emo rebellious mamma's boy regular teen when in fact, he should be portrayed as a psychopath. He should start the show killing small animals. That's the only way to make sense of this character. The third and not necessarily last (although I'm stopping here) is the constant unreal actions and bad motivations. The hero group keeps making bad mistakes and takes unreasonable paths. This world seems unreasonable. It starts with letting the survivors leave quarantine so quickly. Even the villain does not come off well. There are issues everywhere but I must it that this is addictive hate-watch material.
ed321 I love American TV. From the 1950's Sgt Bilko to Breaking Bad. American comedies and dramas are arguably the best in the world. Recently that reputation has been cemented by the likes of 24, Breaking Bad, The Wire, West Wing, The Walking Dead, Fear the Walking Dead, Stranger Things and The Strain.I watched Series 1 & 2 DVD Boxset of the Strain and was blown away. The acting, the production values are first class. It combines good story telling with on-the-edge-of-the-seat action. These are not cardboard stock characters but well developed characters that you root for in each episode. OK there are some plot holes that could have done better but this fantastic and looking forward to watch the rest of the series.
