It's a grand occasion as the residents of Chatsworth celebrate being awarded an Olympic ring from London 2012. The Maguires toast the expansion of their empire: Mimi's hijacked control of the local school via the PTA and Shane's setting up a new business venture. Business is booming, but the family is thrown into turmoil when Jamie makes a shocking discovery about his family tree and withdraws from the firm. Can Mimi persuade Jamie to return as head of the family before all is lost or will a shocking secret tear Chatsworth's leading family apart? Meanwhile, Frank finds himself climbing the employment ladder as janitor of 'St Mimi's School', conveniently funding his new leisure activity - the Gastric Bandits, a prostitute double act with Sherrilee and Derrilee, who light up his life.

When Mimi hears that the school will be failed by School Inspector Edward Clayhill, she decides to save the day. But not without the help of the Chatsworth residents. Meanwhile, Jamie tries to his half-brother Kassi, but after the punch-up in the Jockey, Kassi won't pick up the phone. When Kassi fails to show for a drink, Jamie's forced to recognise that maybe having a new brother isn't going to work. Elsewhere, Frank discovers an unexpected perk of being janitor at the school: 24-hour access. Quick to take advantage, Frank invites the Gastric Bandits for an after-hours drug-fuelled romp, whilst Gloria and Dom continue to hide their sordid affair. But how long can they keep their disgraced secret?

Episode 10

Billy is fed up of being the village idiot and decides it's time to earn the respect of Mimi and his peers by applying for a security salesman job. But with no experience and qualifications it's not that easy. Things start to unravel when Billy pretends he's secured the job and sinks to new levels in his quest for respect. Esther is shocked to discover that Thalia's black eye is a result of her daughter being a bully. Determined to make Thalia show more comion for her schoolmates and set a good example, Esther sets about apologising to various Chatsworth residents, but they are far from impressed. Meanwhile, Lillian takes pity on a neglected Stella and invites her to spend time in her house. A brothel is no place for a young child though, especially when she gives Lillian's valued workers nits.

Shameless Audience Reviews 2vg42

Matrixston Wow! Such a good movie.
Pluskylang Great Film overall
Motompa Go in cold, and you're likely to emerge with your blood boiling. This has to be seen to be believed.
Candida It is neither dumb nor smart enough to be fun, and spends way too much time with its boring human characters.
The_late_Buddy_Ryan The Showtime remake is an entertainingly "edgy" cable comedy, but the original UK series is the real deal. Some of the plot embellishments in the first US season may have been worthwhile (I liked Lip's high-school teacher's reminiscence about the Grateful Dead and Karen's father's abrupt disappearance), but overall, even thought they're basically identical, the story lines in the original are a lot sharper and more involving. The UK series is filmed in the kitchen-sink-realist style of Ken Loach and Mike Leigh, and you really feel like you're seeing life in a clapped-out council estate (low-rise housing project); despite the frequent Southside location shots, the Chicago Gallaghers still seem to be living in a shabby, neglected corner of Sitcomland. Both casts are great, but we prefer David Thelfall's feral Frank to William H. Macy's shaggy-dog Frank, not to mention Maggie O'Neill's sexpot Sheila to Joan Cusack's ditzbag Sheila; Emmy Rossum (US) is adorable, but Anne-Marie Duff (UK) seems much more in her element as slum goddess Fiona. In Manchester, the teenage brothers are played, convincingly, by age-appropriate actors, and Karen and Mandy seem more like cute 'hood girls than gorgeous young actresses—though, having said that, I concede that bodacious Shanola Hampton (US) makes a more effective webcam stripper than willowy Maxine Peake (UK). The UK series is available on streaming Netflix now; it's British TV at its best. (The US series is American TV at maybe its second or third best.) Doesn't hurt to turn on the CC, though the transcribers are often stumped by the Manc accent ("fat one" for fatwa, "septic isle" for sceptered isle…).
guringo On the plus side, the children, coming into their own, before flattened to a crispy 2 dimensional caricature of their previous self. And skipping the setup to the story, jumping into a plot that shifted into second gear works great --mostly in the first and second seasons, and then it turns contrived and repetitive. By the third season it plummets down to pitching every conceivable personal and family secret humanity ever held and then some, with escapades galore and saccharinated closures by episode end. Alas, the shock value turns into a clown act. And what's with the toast and jam? I don't recall seeing a single vegetable the entire series, it's second only to beer. Any character that scores with viewers - moves right in or next door, or one after or into the van ... so the original neighbors and their relatives were sent packing. The cops are keystone corny and the baddest sociopaths have hearts of gold, dysfunctionality is glamorized and plots are wrung for all possible twists, and while love is always around a corner waiting for a quickie and 'survey says...', so's every other form of shenanigan... Racism is treated with TV respect, which is to say even the crazies are politically correct, drugs are sensationalized when not normalized, and I guess depravity happens to the best of us... Too bad the suits insisted on milking this show for all the lemonade it could dish out. 1st season - 9/10 2nd - 8/10 3rd, 4th - 2/10
Sulla-2 I have just started watching this series from the start. I acknowledge that it is excellent drama, well acted and very funny. However, it saddens me that there are men about like Frank Gallagher who have never done a days work in their lives and expect society to both him and his family. The series in set on a fictional housing estate named after one of the most well to do stately homes in the UK, Chatsworth. The state is both new and run down at the same time. Although Frank is supposed to be the hero, I could never regard him as such, although his daughter Fiona is the heroine. Frank is so awful that he nearly becomes likable.
John Frame Thank God for DVD's! - I only started paying attention to Shameless part way through the second season here in Australia. It aired on the alternative public access SBS TV channel in the time slot which was previously occupied by the USA version of "Queer As Folk" and by "Oz" (both hard core dramas). What got my attention was the unapologetic nature of all the story-telling, the superb acting and the slightly surreal camera work and treatments (a la the original UK Queer As Folk - which is still my favourite all-time TV series). The clincher for Shameless as being unique and valuable is that, right from the first episode, we see a gay son who's sexuality and personality is not only integral to his family's life, but he is also never portrayed as being any more dysfunctional than anyone else.I'm also relieved to see a family, even a fictional family, which has gone through many of the same experiences as my own (both good and bad). Familial love and solidarity go a very long way toward making life enjoyable. These shows are often hilarious and are of consistently high quality. Each episode is enthralling and satisfyingly self-contained. Shameless thoroughly deserved the BAFTA for Best Drama Series.I it that the strong Manchester accents and colloquialisms make occasional dialogue difficult to comprehend, but it wasn't made for me (i.e. Australians) and I am damned glad that it hasn't been dumbed-down to appeal to an international audience.
