It's About Time Audience Reviews 403r5

Glucedee It's hard to see any effort in the film. There's no comedy to speak of, no real drama and, worst of all.
Myron Clemons A film of deceptively outspoken contemporary relevance, this is cinema at its most alert, alarming and alive.
Catherina If you're interested in the topic at hand, you should just watch it and judge yourself because the reviews have gone very biased by people that didn't even watch it and just hate (or love) the creator. I liked it, it was well written, narrated, and directed and it was about a topic that interests me.
Janis One of the most extraordinary films you will see this year. Take that as you want.
mg6072 This show was one of the best shows that I as a kid.....I was right in front of the TV each week I have been checking for years to find this on video...hoping Sherwood Schwartz would release this. Well finally there is a company (Memory Lane) offering the first season DVD for $45, but the shipping is $25. I am not sure that this is coming from the United States which leads me not too sure about buying this, even though they say the quality is excellent and the that it works on all players and they are in chronological order..... I have heard some horror stories about these kinds of companies....If anyone has purchased these 7 DVD's of "It's about time" please let all of us know about the quality...I am so wanting to buy these but am leery.....please inform thanks
BigSkyMax This wretched show haunts me during dark, sleepless nights - but only the opening jingle. Something like "it's about time, it's about space, it's about men and the prehistoric race.." I was 10 when it came out, and with only two channels to choose from, you had to watch everything on TV to earn your bona fides. They lured you in with a cartoon opening, but after that, the creativity fell off Wyle E. Coyote's cliff. Another ingenious device from TV auteur Sherwood Schwartz? Of course. That means mechanical jokes, plots as jolly as a pauper's field, and, especially, lots and lots of annoying canned laughter. Imogene Coca deserved better.
junk_box "It's About Time" was a very short lived sitcom released in 1965 that mercifully died a quick death. It's television dreck, full of clichés and cornballs, idiocy peppered with a relentless jangling laugh-track. It may have pleased an eight year old in pajamas with a mouth full of sugar cereal, but apparently not enough of them to remain on the air. One would like to call it charming, simple, and quaint, but that it was made by adults working as executives in television production, and adult actors who took acting as their avocation. This television is so ridiculously & ittedly stupid, and it's unsettling to think that it was made by grown-up people. The producers must have decided that the way to create a hit was to take elements from several successful shows and combine them into something new. In this way, "It's About Time" is a amalgamation of what was popular on the box in the USA in 1965. The caveman elements come from Captain Caveman and the Flintstones, the nyuk-nyuk castaways come from Gilligan's Island, and the adventures of two moderns trapped among yokels in the wild is from Green Acres. Sherwood Schwartz had nothing left except the ability to imitate himself. Why did it fail? a) The continual unga-bunga dialect ("Me like sharp stick, take food to mate") is very grating and annoying -- alone it's enough to make you flip the channel. b) No pretty girls to prance about in a tiger-fur bra. Did Eva Marie Saint turn the part down? c) It's hard to cheer for the two dorky spacemen. They don't rouse sympathy or interest.
horrorfilmx I found the common thread through most of the member comments for IT'S ABOUT TIME to be hilarious: three pages of comments from startled people who all thought they were the ONLY ones who the show! And everyone can still whistle the theme song. The thing that captivated me about this show when I was a kid were the dinosaurs, lifted mostly from the movies DINOSAURUS! and THE BEAST OF HOLLOW MOUNTAIN. In fact in one scene where a tyrannosaurus (from DINOSAURUS!) is supposed to be trying to attack some cave men hiding in a cave you can clearly see that it's actually digging away at the entrance to a mine, complete with ing timbers and a sign warning people to keep out. Later on when (I assume) the show wasn't doing too well in the rating and the producers decided to bring cave people back to the future in a sort of BEVERLY HILLBILIES scenario I quickly lost interest. The only other things about the show that really stand out in my memory are the goofy cast of cave people (Mike Mazurki, Joe E. "Ooh! Ooh!" Ross, Imogene Coca, and a sort of prehistoric Daisy Duke who always wore nylons under her animal skins) and the fact that one of the two astronauts (I think if was Frank Aletter, although I'm not sure) had to dye his hand blonde because the producers didn't want two brunettes in the leads. You know, that's a lot to stick in one's memory after forty years!I could easily see this show being resurrected as a big budget theatrical comedy (replacing "cheesy" stop-motion dinos with cheesier CGI effects), with Tom Arnold as the leader of the cave family and Will Farrell and Greg Kinnear as the astronauts. Ugghhhh.......
