Mulan II Audience Reviews 3g3f29

Stevecorp Don't listen to the negative reviews
MoPoshy Absolutely brilliant
Huievest Instead, you get a movie that's enjoyable enough, but leaves you feeling like it could have been much, much more.
Brendon Jones It’s fine. It's literally the definition of a fine movie. You’ve seen it before, you know every beat and outcome before the characters even do. Only question is how much escapism you’re looking for.
eclaire-68264 Mulan 2 is completely different from the first Mulan. It involves a tragic story about how the emperor of China sells his three daughters off to be married to princes whom they have never met to make a peace offering and end the war. Mulan could never imagine such pain as she is marrying the man she loves , general Shang. It is Mulan and Shang's mission to take the princesses to the princes. General shang hires three guards who are just a wreck but good enough to protect them. They are also hopeless romantic's , as are the princesses. Throughout the whole movie the guards and the princesses slowly fall in love with each other and one night decide to sneak out together to go to a festival in town . While in the meantime , Mulan's guardian Mushu , a dragon tries to ruin her and Shang's relationship so he doesn't loose his pedestal. Mei and Yao become a pair , Ling and Ting Ting , and Chien Po and Su. Mulan finds out and is extremely happy for them but soon after Shang wakes up and goes to the festival very upset . He ends their relationship and continued to take them to the princes. On the way Shang and everyone are ambushed by bandits , cutting the bridge , Shang let's go and falls off to save Mulan. Mulan morning him goes to the other emperor and demands that she she take the princesses places . She proceeded to get married but then Shang shows up , saves the day , marries Mulan , and the princesses live happily ever after. Everybody wins . It's a sweet movie and has alot of humor, romance , and some sad parts in it . I would highly recommend it to anyone .
KR P The story of this sequel seems to heavily favor individualism to an extreme when compared to the original, yet it also paradoxically implies that women (the Princesses in particular) are simply thralls of the Emperor and needed a man to 'bring them to life'. In the original: the relationship between Shang and Mulan started as trust/friendship -something that would not have been possible between a man and a women if she hadn't hidden her gender, furthermore -Shang's family seems to have a high social status even compared to Mulan's; which would have made a relationship even more unlikely. Here we have 3 Imperial princesses falling in 'love' with 3 less than sophisticated soldiers -just because? um?...they don't want to get married off so they get cozy with their guards?Everyone is pretty selfish in this movie: the princesses, the soldiers, Muushu, Shang and even Mulan. She appears to do something selfless by agreeing to marry the Gong Prince (becoming a princess and eventually the Empress) but that only lasts until Shang returns. Both she and Shang then abandon their mission to save China and get married -Shang conveniently having forgot that he and Mulan had appeared to 'break up'. Furthermore: Apart from puppet trick outside the tent -Muushu only created situations in which conflict between Shang and Mulan naturally arose (Waking up Shang so that he catches Mulan and the soldiers going behind his back -Muushu only helped make Shang aware of what was going on, he didn't make Mulan or the soldiers do what they did).So what about the Mongols? you know the whole reason for the marriages and the alliance? They kind of are guilty of treason against their Emperor/country -I can't imagine he is happy about the betrayals. I also wonder how happy-go-lucky they all will be when the Mongols are raping and murdering their way through China because of them. meh.
whatever_123 The first Mulan is one of my all time favorite Disney movies. Just for the heck of it, I watched the second one with my friend... and it sucked. For one thing, the songs were stupid and completely forgettable. For another thing, the animation looked weird to me. Mulan was a lot less pretty in this movie than in the first one, I don't know how. Anyway, the plot was a predictable piece of garbage. They are taking the three princesses to their pre-arranged marriages, they fall in love with the other guys, and they get to choose who they marry at the end. I was also really disappointed in Mushu in this movie. In the first Mulan, Mushu provided a great comic relief and he seemed like a really respectable guy. In this movie he turned into a complete jerk. He wanted to break up Mulan and Shang (who is the hottest cartoon character ever!) because he wanted to maintain his Guardian status??? How selfish can you get?! There's a part in the movie that amazes me, and not in a good way. (SPOILER) At one point, Mulan and Shang are hanging off a broken bridge that has to be at least ten thousand feet high. Shang's hand slips out of Mulan's and he falls TEN THOUSAND FEET TO THE GROUND. Later in the movie, he comes back, completely fine. What???? From where I come from, if you fell ten thousand feet, you would be dead!! Although, I am happy he lived (because he's so hot!!) The most annoying thing about this movie is the one sentence they say, no joke, fifty times. Every scene they have to remind us that "your duty is to your heart". I swear I almost threw up the forty fifth time they said it.Everything that the first Mulan did right, Mulan 2 did totally wrong! No great songs, terrible plot, ridiculous situations, and an sickening message. Please don't watch this movie. There's a reason why it went straight to DVD!!!
daikpen-624-276573 The story is pointless and takes a cheap way out of every remotely deep question. The main problem of the Hun invasion is also never solved. The main message of being selfish with disregard to the well being of others is also troubling. The songs are not forgettable- they are flat out bad. The animation pales in comparison to the original. This is another example of Disney ruining a good film with an unnecessary ugly sequel.A pointless voice cameo by Michelle Kwan on a nonsensically skating ginger saleswoman puts the hilariously bad cherry on top of this pile of garbage. Don't let your children or anyone see this for risk of tainting the memory of the original (and very good) film.
