Interesteg What makes it different from others?
GamerTab That was an excellent one.
Majorthebys Charming and brutal
Tayloriona Although I seem to have had higher expectations than I thought, the movie is super entertaining.
pstueber Based on a true story. Scenery so authentic! The jungle and the river rapids vivid and real. I Thought Radcliffe performance was as authentic as it gets for someone truly lost in a jungle. A great performance. This movie stayed with me the next day. It's one way I rate a good movie. I was impacted By the survival instincts of humankind. I especially liked the performance of Radcliffe when he started the hallucinations and the desire to let go. The cinematography deserves an Oscar. Awards to Radcliffe!
eric262003 Based on actual events, "Jungle" centers around a thrill-seeker named Yossi Ghinsberg (Daniel Radcliffe) who pursues a journey through Bolivia's Amazon jungle who's mission is to survive the terrain with no friends, no food and just instinct alone for 19 days. I'm assuming that those who have lost faith in Greg McLean and the direction choices he's made over the years (both hits and misses) may think he wasn't right for the job based on this bestseller novel by Ghinsberg himself. Either that or they've never experienced in the facets of survival of the fittest. A lot of critics referred to "Jungle" as cliche laden, tedious and melodramatic. They can't possibly be any wronger in fact I actually enjoyed the subtle touches of McLean's direction while investing into the realism over fantasy in this case. I'll say this is truly a step-up for McLean from his other abominations like "The Darkness" and 'The Belko Experiment" being that there is more humanity put at heart here and another milestone performance by Daniel Radcliffe who's playing a character I wouldn't want to be. It's a true story that's need to be seen to be inspired.Set in the Bolivian jungles Yossi Ghinsberg explores the area after serving three years in the Israeli army. There he befriends a Swiss schoolteacher named Marcus Stamm (Joel Jackson) and an American photographer Kevin Gale (Alex Russell). But then, Yossi is manipulated by an Austrian bushman named Karl Ruprechter (Thomas Kretschmsann) who tells him that in the further depths of the jungle is an obscure Indian tribe and that everything is safe here. So Karl lead the other gentlemen on this trek and all goes well, but it doesn't last long.Tension and exhaustion starts to unfold as Marcus' feet becomes sorely painful he slows down the group as they start resenting each other. Eventually the group splits up as Marcus and Karl bail out while Yossi and Kevin continue on their way. But then the mission becomes to overwhelming for Kevin as he walks out leaving Yossi to his lonesome. This mission continues for 19 days as Yossi must depend on instinct and determination if he's going though this initiative on his own. The journey isn't without its dangers including extreme heat, extreme hunger and the abundance of wildlife. The principal idiosyncrasy that makes this movie works is the setting is what I was expecting. Shot on location in the Outbacks of Australia, the feeling that we're also a part of the action makes this film all the more to get invested in. No depending on green screens or cozy studios here, McLean takes us right into the thick of it all with the sights and sounds making it all the more authentic. This really goes up there with "Wolf Creek" and "Rogue". McLean succeeds in trusting his own intentions by refraining from depending on scenes designed to shock or thrill you, but to keep this story as real as it comes and still finds way to remain entertaining. The real star here is the performance from Daniel Radcliffe who once again shows that he can turn in serious and complex performances that make you forget about Harry Potter. Here he's sacrificing his handsome looks for a more grizzled storytelling of Ghinsberg's journey of survival. This is truly one of Radcliffe's more committed roles and he executed it perfectly. Many critics bashed McLean for making Yossi talk to himself in the jungle. What did you expect? Even with no one around communication is still important or else he'll likely turn primal. These events really happened and the harsh reality is neither hyperbolic or delusional. If you been through what Yossi did you would understand the story more. This is McLean's best film after "Wold Creek".
sergelamarche The film may not be entirely true to the real adventure but in itself does very well. Almost all the scenes and especially in the jungle look real. The wooden raft looks real and seems to really floats on its own. Daniel does a great job throughout. A story of growth through survival.
allkin I was browsing amazon prime and found this title on a uneventful Monday night, the plot sounded engaging enough but was more intrigued that daniel radcliffe was playing the lead role. I decided to give it a play and was completely entranced by the absolute beautiful and breathtaking cinematography of the film. Not only that but the tale and momentum of the film was so engaging that I could not peel my eyes away for more than a minute. It is essentially a movie about the trials and tribulations of self discovery and willpower of survival. Lot's of fight or flight scenarios and a very emotional tie to the main characters. One of the better movies I have seen in a while. don't read into the trolls negative reviews too hard they probably watch movies like hitch 1,000 times a year and laugh at how "clever" it is. Seriously, I made an just so I could say how good this movie was.
