For years he terrorized California motorists as he rode the endless highways searching for his next victim. The discarded bodies turned up beaten, sexually assaulted and horribly mutilated. Deceptively charming and intelligent, the scheming murderer easily avoided police at first. But as police closed in and the killer’s pattern grew more erratic, the only question was how many more will die?

Freeway Killer Audience Reviews 2r3s1j

Matialth Good concept, poorly executed.
BroadcastChic Excellent, a Must See
InformationRap This is one of the few movies I've ever seen where the whole audience broke into spontaneous, loud applause a third of the way in.
Yash Wade Close shines in drama with strong language, adult themes.
jordanazhar My brother and the brother of my best friend, was victims of Bonin. I found this movie very incomplete about the true facts. Bonin killed over 16 young men, he was only convicted of 14. Bonin and his minions, would use Chloroform to knock the victims out, they would then have sex with them and then kill them. The night when he was arrested he was in the act of abusing a young hustler in a gas station parking lot in Hollywood. Bonin was killing young men in the Los Angeles and Orange County areas for years. He was even on parole. He was on parole for the same thing. He was not under police watch. No one knew who The Freeway Stranglar was until he was arrested. He lived on Death Row for over 12 years.
cmoyton Serial killer movies. They are a dime a dozen and this is low low budget. So low no effort is made to get the background details correct. Set twenty years in the past cue all the modern cars and contemporary food items. But look closely at major offerings like Donnie Brasco for example and even with big budgets they still produce continuity errors.Ican overlook the flaws here as the acting here is spot on. The killer and his assistant are portrayed as simultaneously creepy and seductive. Between acting out their murder fantasies they also attempt to lure in other disenfranchised young men into their world and this is what hastens their downfall. The murder scenes while not overly graphic are disturbing in the way they show the pleasure obtained by the killers and their sociopathic attitude to human life.Ironically Michael (Henry!) Rooker plays the cop who pops up at the end to nail the killers. Based on real events no attempt is made to show the police investigation until the end and the killers real life homosexuality is only alluded to in the movie. For accuracy better off sticking to the many books published on serial killers - for me this is close enough
sarlex85 The movie itself wasn't so bad. However the storyline could've been fleshed out a little bit more. My pet peeve was that the movie was filled with so many Anochronisms, it threw the story off a bit. This was set around 1979-1980, but it looked very low budget. There were modern cars everywhere, besides the ones used by the actors themselves. The convenience store was riddled with current versions of consumer products, Bonin's alarm clock was digital, etc. Just seems like they didn't make a good effort at setting the theme of the movie to have been in the past. It was shot more like a student film on a shoestring budget.
johnnyinmtl I know with only two ratings before me, the average was pretty high for this movie. Not that it's such a terrible movie mind you. It does lack a lot of detail that I think should have been included. I know that you can only put so much into 90 minutes, but I think it should have been at least a two hour movie in order to fully appreciate the scope of things. Also, less time could have actually been spent with the abductions and killings which was very sparse to begin with and didn't add anything to the character development (I think the police or news discussing the murders as part of the story would have contributed more than enough details of the killings). The acting itself is definitely not Academy Award material, but tolerable. I walked away from the movie not feeling fully informed of all that happened which I thought was the main point of the film. As I said, not terrible, but then again maybe not worth watching. As far as the previous reviewer comparing the lead character to Jack Nicholson....that HURTS! (My apologies to JN if that review ever gets back to him) I got more satisfaction and knowledge reading about the Freeway Killer on-line.
