Breakinger A Brilliant Conflict
Peereddi I was totally surprised at how great this film. You could feel your paranoia rise as the film went on and as you gradually learned the details of the real situation.
filippaberry84 I think this is a new genre that they're all sort of working their way through it and haven't got all the kinks worked out yet but it's a genre that works for me.
Jemima It's a movie as timely as it is provocative and amazingly, for much of its running time, it is weirdly funny.
desgrant22 I treated myself to the original Dallas box-set last Christmas as they were a steal at around €100 for the whole series on single sided disks. I them from the very start and were compelling viewing every week. After 35 years they are still fun to watch again. What made the original so good is that is was very sharply written, was full of black humour, marvellous character actors who played bankers, oil men, politicians and even J.Rs shady private detectives. I could go on and on. (Pity about the showing of previews before the episodes begin. This sorta ruined it for me and would have been better if they had shown last on Dallas and not next on Dallas)Any let's get to the New Dallas:I am ing the one star merchants on this as this New Dallas is really scraping the bottom of the oil barrel on ideas and can only be described as appalling. It was shameful to watch J.R. as a feeble old man along with the other original cast bickering and fighting like a bunch of stupid kids. Not even J.R (R.I.P) can salvage this debacle. I'm not going to go over the ground of the other wiser and older one star merchants. This series has woeful actors and acting. The muzak is ear shattering and it is going nowhere very fast. Young over made up and useless actress combined with useless, witless, charmless male actors and all wishing they were doing something else. As I write this, the last appearance of Larry Hagman was just shown and as bad as season one was, this season is ten times worse. I was very surprised when the commissioned a second series and actually tortured us with an additional five episodes. If this goes to a third season I will start eating body parts. You know the old sayings, Let sleeping dogs lie, if it ain't broke.
JoeB131 After watching the first season and a half of this, I have to ask that. These characters are doing the same stuff they were doing 30 years ago. The characters fall right into their familiar roles. Grey, Duffy and Hagman are doing the same kinds of things. Maybe if they called this "Dallas, the Next Generation" and let the younger characters take the series off into a new direction, that might be interesting, but it's the same old stuff. The only saving grace of the series was that Larry Hagman was still a treat to watch as J.R. Ewing. And of course, with Mr. Hagman's death and the way the producers are treating it in a way that would make Ed Wood Jr. cringe, the series is going to be less interesting to watch in the march to inevitable cancellation.
markhaazen I loved the original Dallas and while happy to see so many original cast I was nonetheless skeptical that the story would hold up after all of these years and still manage to be as exciting and dynamic as the original. I was so pleasantly surprised to see that not only was it as good as the original, in my opinion it is even better! With J.R. as creatively devious as ever and now schooling his grown son in how to be a rapscallion the wonderful deceit upon which Dallas is built and thrives is as cleverly contrived as it ever was. Saddened, of course, to learn of the death of Larry Hagman, but interested to see how they weave his death into the new season and wondering if they will be able to maintain the dynamic into a third season without J.R. I was thrilled!!! It's absolutely FANTASTIC!!! The cast is amazing and the storyline so far has been intense!! I'm excited for the new season to start at the end of this month. If you haven't watched yet, do it!!! Easily my favorite new show of 2012!!
Brownsbros3 It is not often that a series tops the original, but we've now seen it twice in the last couple of years. It first happened with Hawaii Five-O, and now it has happened again with Dallas. It is the perfect blend of both old and new cast . It amazes me to see Larry Hagman at 80 years old still being able to do J.R. just as good as ever. John Ross is a chip off the old block, even though casting wise Larry is closer being more of a grandfather figure, than a father figure.I am also glad they brought Patrick Duffy back as Bobby Ewing. He is an underrated actor, and it has been way too long since he'd been on screen. I like the mentoring storyline with Christopher about Bobby showing him how to do things the right way, and J.R. showing John Ross how to do them the sneaky, underhanded way.I know a lot of folks want them to bring Pam back, but I don't think it is necessary. I'm liking Bobby and Annie just fine. I did like the appearances for Ray, Lucy, and Cliff.I give credit to the youngsters Josh, Jesse, Julie, and Jordana. They've have been given the reigns to one of TV's all time greatest shows, and they are really making it work. I hope that the second season will have more episodes than just the 10 that they are shooting for the first season.
