Holstra Boring, long, and too preachy.
KnotStronger This is a must-see and one of the best documentaries - and films - of this year.
Edwin The storyline feels a little thin and moth-eaten in parts but this sequel is plenty of fun.
SnoopyStyle Set in Whitechapel in East End of London starting in 1889, police Detective Inspector Edmund Reid (Matthew Macfadyen) commands the local H Division trying to bring order into the poverty stricken chaos. It's been months since the last Jack the Ripper murder and their failure to find the elusive killer. There are Detective Sergeant Bennet Drake (Jerome Flynn), Captain Homer Jackson (Adam Rothenberg), brothel madam Long Susan (MyAnna Buring), and Rose Erskine (Charlene McKenna), one of Long Susan's girls. Reid is haunted by the lost of his daughter. There is a great dark grim brooding atmosphere. It's happy to live in the brutal gutter ugliness. The leads are compelling enough. The show works great as a procedural but it gets muddled as a serial. It also doesn't help that it's often a year or two in between seasons and I can't recall earlier storylines. I highly suggest binging straight through. The style also lends itself to be a dark confusion. It's darker than Guy Ritchie but is certainly in a neighboring gene pool. The dark style is great but the show does grind down.
cvasily Edge of the seat drama that is done very well. Kudos to the cast and crew for a job well done! Is there a possibility that they will create a season six? I do hope they continue with this series and add more seasons. It's worthy of creating further dialogue so we can see where it goes from the end of season 5.
mshavzin The first episode was all about the lack of women's rights, and the typical bad mean male aristocrats. I enjoyed it well enough, but after the next few episodes each illustrating a liberal talking point, from racism to homophobia, to communism, to lack of immigrant appreciation…I just gave up. I don't need that nonsense shoved at me. In the real world, its not bored wealthy people that commit crimes. Wealthy people are usually not all that bored, because they tend to be working, and successful families tend to bring up their children well. The only wealthy people I can think of that have miserable kids that turn into criminals are all in the entertainment industry…and still, they don't go around killing people, they just drive without licenses, and maybe buy drugs. The people who commit crimes are most often from racial minorities, and poor. Maybe the writers of this boring show should look at actual statistics.
westsideschl Seems to be a consensus floating about on season 3 being the best of the lot. Quite intelligent storytelling with intelligent dialogue, good suspense although sometimes a bit predictable. Authentic dirt & dust & sets & props & costuming. Would have helped, and this is consistently true for period movies, if the actors appearances were more authentic, e.g. mottled teeth, splotchy skin, bugs in the hair. Usual twists 'n turns in suspense, crime dramas. Rare 8+ rating from IMDb. If you haven't figured it out or already know it's East London, late 1800s and shortly after Jack the Ripper. Follows the Sherlock style work of British and America transplant detectives. Hard to believe that BBC canceled the show after the second season only to be rescued by Amazon (who would have thought) and even though it had a finale feel to it supposedly it's up for another year or more.
