ClassyWas Excellent, smart action film.
Micransix Crappy film
Brendon Jones It’s fine. It's literally the definition of a fine movie. You’ve seen it before, you know every beat and outcome before the characters even do. Only question is how much escapism you’re looking for.
Myron Clemons A film of deceptively outspoken contemporary relevance, this is cinema at its most alert, alarming and alive.
KMiske Zeke and Luther is a show about two older teens who encounter sometimes odd neighborhood problems that they navigate with unexpected laugh-a- minute punchlines and visual comedy executed perfectly by this well-cast group of young, talented actors. It stars Hutch Dano, Adam Hicks, Daniel Curtis Lee, and Ryan Newman. The actors are actual skateboarders which adds a nice fluidity to the scenes. It's obvious that the episodes are not rushed. Whereas Drake and Josh comes off like a school play. This show is more than one step up from the old show 'Drake and Josh'. A refreshing difference is that 'Zeke and Luther' parents are never seen or heard and are rarely mentioned (slow butter!). It's refreshing to stay in just the one mindset of the kids. Extremely well cast and written, it's popular with parents too. I'm delighted that this show was picked up for a third season. Ooh Watch Out! (Slap)
Rectangular_businessman This show is awful. It is like a live-action version of that horrible cartoon of Nickelodeon, "Rocket Power". But to be honest, "Zeke and Luther" is even worse than Rocket Power. Why? Mostly because the characters of this show are stupid, incredibly stupid and lame, and all of them are unlikeable, flat and one dimensional. The other reason why this show sucks so much, it is because it is terribly unfunny. I never saw a show so unfunny and annoying like this since I saw one episode of the dreadful "ICarly"."Zeke and Luther" is a complete waste of time. It is idiotic, boring and predictable. It is bad for children and adults as well.I would give this zero stars if I could.
Chris Poi The show is a very poor formula that's been overly used by Disney shows a good decade before this. It's not even the fact that it's basically a reincarnation of previous productions smashed together with a Skateboarding twist. It's the fact that everything is done in such low quality that make this lack-luster. The humour doesn't make sense in its entirety. The humour I got from this show was watching the blank unimpressed faces of my niece(7yrs) and nephew(5yrs). I've never seen such an astonishing thing seeing as they love almost anything that Disney produces.I can't just fault the jokes, but the writing as a whole; The dialogue & the plot(s) were low quality. It really did feel like they hired some random humour-lacking 6th graders to write for the show. The writers are all 30yrs+ old and this is what they are producing... shameful. Everything in this show was predicted by my niece and nephew minutes before it happened. The 1st episode was horribly structured and rushed. Taking 2 kids which are virtually strangers to the audience then quickly making them pro-skateboarders in which the mischief and awkward situations ensue to an anti-climatic ending. The only dilemma in the episode was Zeke's(Hutch Dano) toe in the faucet and Luther's (Adam Hicks) bad neck. The whole situation with Zeke's Toe and Faucet is, well, as my niece said "dumb" and she said that with great distaste. Luther's neck injury just doesn't make sense overall. Someone that young would need a more forceful and violent action to sustain a neck injury like he did; It's not like he was 40yrs of age. Then there's the acting, very heavily exaggerated and sarcastic to the point that everything they do displays these two emotions and nothing else. It's almost as if the talent doesn't care about the characters in which the characters look like they care about the situations they encounter. Not surprised that they went through 3 directors in 9 episodes, the actors looked slightly confused and lost in their performances. The only talent doing their job well was Ryan Newman, but again very unoriginal character and the writers didn't develop her character enough to be meaningful to the show. The only thing they got right was the complex love/hate of the skateboarding community. The skateboarding community is very much an Elitist community, however respect is given conditionally. They did capture this with the camaraderie between Zeke, Luther and Kojo(Dan Curtis Lee) in the first episode. After that however writers become to fictional. They make it seem like becoming a pro is nothing but a snap of the fingers. There are so many steps and hardships involved with the progression of becoming a professional skateboarder that this is nothing but a huge insult to any skateboarder out there doing it as a career or aspiring to go professional.
aimless-46 The new Disney show "Zeke and Luther" (2009) is what would happen if "Drake and Josh" suddenly became skater boyz. Drake takes on the 1982 speech patterns of "Fast Time at Ridgement High's" surfer dude Jeff Spicoli and is named Zeke (played by Hutch Dano – perhaps an inside joke on "Starsky and Hutch" and "Hawaii Five-O"). Poor Josh is re-named Luther (Adam Hicks), he seems to have lost a lot of IQ points and to have acquired the vaguely irritating 1998 speech patterns of Seth Green's character in "Can't Hardly Wait". Megan keeps her fearsome personality but is now named Ginger (Ryan Newman)."Zeke and Luther" is getting a lot of repeat play these days on Disney XD-the successor to "Toon Disney", so it should not be hard to track it down for viewing if the basic premise seems interesting to you.The ing characters are all caricatures to varying degrees and this fits nicely with the slightly off-kilter backlot production design of the show."Zeke and Luther" is a bit dumbed down relative to "Drake and Josh"; going after a younger and less sophisticated demographic, although there is some overlap. The show does occasionally surprise and throws in some really clever stuff. Especially noteworthy were several scenes between Dano and Abigail Mavity in the "Donut Jockey" episode. Mavity appears in four short segments of this episode; each time playing a subtly different version of her character and each time effortlessly selling the new version. She is helped by nice work from the wardrobe and makeup people, plus excellent acting for the camera direction; but her acting skills are extremely impressive. Casting people would be wise to put Mavity very high on a short list of extremely talented young actors. Then again, what do I know? I'm only a child.
