Alicia I love this movie so much
Spidersecu Don't Believe the Hype
ChicDragon It's a mild crowd pleaser for people who are exhausted by blockbusters.
Chonesday It's one of the most original films you'll likely see all year, which, depending on your threshold for certifiably crazy storylines, could be a rewarding experience or one that frustrates you.
fohi Not even close to being based in reality. If this is what the public wants for its entertainment, we're in trouble. Tim Roth is way better than this.
James Farley This is too sad. I tried this out with high expectations because I like Tim Roth. The opening scene was the big clue though; the annoying little "I have to wee wee" boy as Tim pumps gas in rural Alberta when, out of nowhere the assassin appears at a random, apparently deserted but still functioning gas station that nobody had any reason to expect that Tim's character would have stopped at. The scene, repeated as the ultimate portion of episode one makes even less sense in context than it did out of context. The whole base story line is a continuing series of nonsensical plot points that all beg unanswerable questions. By the end of episode one, it is obvious that this is going nowhere fast. Too sad.
borismk-38942 Tim Roth's character seems at first to be a guy you can get behind. He seems relaxed and clear headed with a difficult past that he's trying to leave behind. However as soon as things go wrong he quickly resolves issues with his fists. He refuses to take responsibility for his choices and frequently takes is failures violently out on others (in particular his male deputy). This would make for an interesting character if the show didn't seem to his behaviour. He's lauded by his female colleague for brutally assaulting her boyfriend, for a situation that was ultimately caused by Roth's character in the first place. Imagine for one moment he had done that to a female character and the reaction that would have garnered. If this had been done as a deconstrution of violence and anger then it would have made for an excellent show. Instead it simply reinforces the double standard of violence and abuse that makes it alright to do so long as it's against the right gender
lassell This series seemed to be right up my alley, but I found myself disliking nearly all the characters, most of the writing, and even some of the actors. There are things to like about it, but the best is the footage of the Canadian Rockies, which is breathtaking and has nothing to do with the plot except to emphasize how cut off this town is. A lot of it is shop-worn, unoriginal, and flatly boring. And the direction is ham-fisted. Some of it is absurd. In one scene a character is beaten up by a pack of angry men and the only consequence is a small cut over the eye: no nose or fingers, no cracked ribs, ruptured spleen. A time sequence which seems to take weeks, we are informed, is really three days. I went 'What?" Racial stereotypes are troubling, and poor Christina Hendricks is not only miscast but out of her depth as an actor, if she is an actor (no evidence of it here). I'd say skip it. It's not nearly original or deft enough. It's "professional," but not inspired. P.S. Profanity and some female nudity if that bothers you.
