Linbeymusol Wonderful character development!
Tayloriona Although I seem to have had higher expectations than I thought, the movie is super entertaining.
Teddie Blake The movie turns out to be a little better than the average. Starting from a romantic formula often seen in the cinema, it ends in the most predictable (and somewhat bland) way.
Clarissa Mora The tone of this movie is interesting -- the stakes are both dramatic and high, but it's balanced with a lot of fun, tongue and cheek dialogue.
olgaipatova This is certainly the second worst Austen adaptation (the absolute worst being Mansfield Park with toothy bare-chest hair-down whatshername playing Fanny). The casting is not just not right, it is simply opposite to the book characterisation starting from peaches-and-cream Wentworth (and the man is supposed to be a seasoned naval officer!) and straight down to Anne who looks like she is mentally challenged. Probably only Mr Elliot was right, due to which in the end I started rooting for him. The script is no less awful. I guess the circus scene have been grilled enough before me, so I will go straight to the IMPOSSIBLE ending - Wentworth could not never ever buy the estate because it could not be sold! It was entailed and the fact is essencial for the plot. If Sir Walter could sell he would have done so long before, and the story would be totally different. So why put in this illogical invention? Wasn't the lovers' reunion not good enough?
okatenda As one who loves watching any adaptation of a Jane Austen novel, I must say i enjoyed watching this movie. I have one single complaint, i found myself growing increasingly annoyed with the character of Anne, portrayed by Sally Hawkins. The thing i love most about Jane Austen's lead female characters is that they are usually free spirited women with strong characters who exhibit intelligence and confidence, unlike other females characters in her novels. However, Anne shows none of these traits, instead she appears to be confused, constantly our of breath and mopey. She goes through most of the movie feeling sorry for herself and being led by other people. It made it hard for me to like her or even care about her. There was nothing to distinguish her from the other females in the movie or to convince us why Wentworth loved her above all for as long as he did.As for Wentworth, he seemed more like a pretty boy than anything I would have liked to see more depth to his character.
hotrina89 Coming from a person that loves Jane Austen movies and not ever to read her actual books, this movie was absolutely boring. I am used to the main character being.. Interesting, or the plot and the side stories to help with that. Anne was so boring I wanted to shoot myself, she barely speaks and she keeps blinking as though she has something in her eyes (drove me insane). She would often open her mouth and nothing would come out. Her hairstyle was dreadful, she was an unattractive female so it was very hard to believe that a good looking rich man would desperately want a quiet, unattractive woman that seems to have no backbone and that is easily "persuaded" to do what others want her to do. This is so far my least favorite of Jane Austen's movies, pride and prejudice is the best, following sense and sensibility.
badajoz-1 Sally Hawkins (Ann Eliot) plays for breathlessness and wimpering gagging for Captain Wentworth (Rupert Penry-Jones) in this version of 'Persuasion.' It soon becomes tiresome and one note, so all the scenery and societal comment come to naught. Bath looks good - even Nicholas Cage's pad on the Royal Crescent - as well as CGI Lyme! The costumes are nice, but silly subsidiary characters and overwrought sub plots sink this simple tale to the level of a US Showtime afternoon TV movie! The villain gets his comeuppance by report of a really secondary character, and what Julia Davis was doing cast as the elder sister when she looks old enough to be her father's wife! Good old Anthony Head - what a vain class-ridden poppycock! Not good enough by half.
