Anne with an E Audience Reviews 2u324r

Glucedee It's hard to see any effort in the film. There's no comedy to speak of, no real drama and, worst of all.
Taraparain Tells a fascinating and unsettling true story, and does so well, without pretending to have all the answers.
Ortiz Excellent and certainly provocative... If nothing else, the film is a real conversation starter.
Dana An old-fashioned movie made with new-fashioned finesse.
caitlinjesson So much story has gone into each of the characters
AntHarwood Like with many adaptations, audiences expect the new to encapsulate the old and be completely faithful to the source material. I used to be guilty of this until I saw Tim Minchin's Groundhog Day and realised how narrow minded I had been in expecting to experience only what the film had delivered in the past and learned to thoroughly enjoy this new invention. The same goes with Anne with an E. It is neither the book series, nor the old tv series (which I loved as I was growing up). This is a beautifully cast and constructed version of an old favourite. That is a prime point here. The characters are superbly filled out by every actor cast. So many have complained about the pc nature of the show. Well we aren't living in the 1900's anymore. Nor the 80's. Topics get updated for the society we live in, make it more socially relevant. It's nice to think Anne, a forward thinking, head strong character in any iteration, might tackle these issues in such a way and, if they had been included in the book, I'm sure she would have. I feel many of the above reviews are just people's own biased views on the topics covered in the series rather than an assessment of the series itself. One was even entitled 'disgusting' which there is nothing that fits that description in this wonderful series in the slightest. If you're stuck in the past in your views of Anne Shirley, or your views on society, then maybe give this a miss. But if you're open to a new interpretation and a new approach, this is a definitely delight.
malasasikumar-46383 Have been a fan of L.M. Montgomery's work for a long time, especially her Anne series of books. This show was both annoying in itself, and a total disappointment to me. I valiantly watched the entire first season and up to the middle of the second season before giving up in absolute disgust. I'm a very liberal individual and a strong LGBT ally, and I agree that Anne's tales need to be made more relevant to our current age with the addition of non-canon plots and characters based on such themes & issues. However, the storylines borrow nothing at all from the original novels-it's as if the showrunners are using just the name of the main character and have retained a handful of her friends & family from the book while stripping everything about her and about them that made her such a beloved heroine. Why, for instance, insist on sending Gilbert away to sea to earn his living and create too much drama around some visits to Caribbean ports? I generally hesitate to criticize young children, but while I agree that Amybeth McNulty's appearance is perfect for the role, she comes across as way too shrieky, and the overall effect is of someone who is mentally feeble, not merely quirky and super imaginative. The most wonderful part about Anne's tales in the books is that even with not very much happening in Avonlea, she manages to build a beautiful and rich inner life for herself. This series has pretty much managed to destroy the values and ideals behind that image.
fzdudit Very good series. The girl reminds me of my sister. It is very similar to the Indian TV series malgudi days.
