The White Queen Audience Reviews 6g1o5o

Inclubabu Plot so thin, it es unnoticed.
Afouotos Although it has its amusing moments, in eneral the plot does not convince.
Leoni Haney Yes, absolutely, there is fun to be had, as well as many, many things to go boom, all amid an atmospheric urban jungle.
Raymond Sierra The film may be flawed, but its message is not.
Freedom060286 This is a very enjoyable historical TV series with great acting and excellent direction. As a history buff, I liked the historical accuracy. Having read several books on the Wars of the Roses, for the most part I knew what would happen before seeing it, yet found it entertaining. Nearly all of the major events shown in this TV series actually happened, and real events for me are far more interesting than fiction. Of course The White Queen isn't perfectly historically accurate, no movie or TV series ever is. But it is much more so than, for example, the TV series Vikings on the History channel, which has men who lived in different centuries (Ragnar and Rollo) portrayed as brothers, and makes Alfred the Great out to be the illegitimate son of a monk. The character of the Duke of Clarence and Richard III are portrayed more accurately than elsewhere, for example the silly 1962 movie Tower of London. Phillipa Gregory is a superb writer, as she pays more attention to historical detail in her writing than Michael Hirst, making her characters seem more realistic, having them come to life. Unlike Bernard Cornwell, she doesn't portray people from certain demographics in a degrading way. Most of the cast were well-chosen. Max Irons fit the physical description of Edward IV. Eleanor Tomlinson was perfect as Isabel Neville, as was Faye Marsay as Anne. I liked the choice of Aneurin Barnard as Richard III - nice to see Richard without a severely crooked back, since that was largely the invention of writers who demonized him during the Tudors reigns and had little basis in reality. Barnard fits the real historical description of Richard, who although not as tall as most other Plantagenet men, was athletic and capable in combat.
gfinister In a few words, after watching the first 2 episodes I was board to tears. I should have quit after the 1st episode. Other than reading about it, I wouldn't have a clue what this movie is about because the story takes so long to get to the point. I can't bare to watch another episode. I complete waste of time.
beltezam1939 I guess I was not impressed the first time I watched it because it was written by Phillips Gregory, who has played rather fast and loose with some of my favorite historical figures. On second watching, it's not too bad. I wish they had spent a little extra on peroxide. Elizabeth was famous for her "silver gilt" hair, which must have been platinum blonde.Another excellent book about Elizabeth Woodbille is by Rosemary Hanley Jarman, "The King's Grey Mare" the first in a whole series about Elizabeth and her descendants. They run a bit closer to actual history than Phillips Gregory's version.
dragonswizardz "The White Queen", based on Philippa Gregory's superb books, is excellent. It is the story of the turbulent 30 years of almost continuous war between two rival families: the House of York (the white rose) and the House of Lancaster (the red rose) ~ the English War of the Roses. And it is the story of three queens: Elizabeth Woodville, Margaret Beaufort and Anne Neville. Their actions, thoughts, and desires are the foundation on which this excellent story lies. The historical personalities shine in this superb production: King Edward IV, King Richard III, the Earl of Warwick, the Nevilles, and the Woodvilles ~~ all are superbly cast. The adaptation of the books, the locations, and the feel of this critical period in English history are equally outstanding.A footnote: "The White Queen" is especially fascinating because King Richard III, whose death at the Battle of Bosworth Field in 1485 ended the War of the Roses and whose grave was lost to history, has been found and re-buried in Leicester Cathedral.
