The Dead Audience Reviews a392

Lumsdal Good , But It Is Overrated By Some
Hadrina The movie's neither hopeful in contrived ways, nor hopeless in different contrived ways. Somehow it manages to be wonderful
Sienna-Rose Mclaughlin The movie really just wants to entertain people.
Nicole I enjoyed watching this film and would recommend other to give it a try , (as I am) but this movie, although enjoyable to watch due to the better than average acting fails to add anything new to its storyline that is all too familiar to these types of movies.
Coventry Following an unexplained zombie virus outbreak in Africa, people of all ethnicities and backgrounds chaotically attempt to leave the continent. Military technician Brian Murphy is on one of the last evacuation planes, but it crashes near the coast and he's the only survivor. Well, there were two more survivors but they serve as zombie breakfast before properly getting off the beach! Murphy fixes a ramshackle car and starts driving, without really knowing where to go. He meets up with native soldier Dembele who's looking for his young son that allegedly got brought to a survivors' camp in the north. They decide to stay together and thus "The Dead" somewhat becomes the zombie version of "Finding Nemo", except that all the jolly encounters are with hungry rotting corpses instead of with colorful sea creatures. Fact: there have been far too many zombie movies over the past 15-20 years, and due to the tremendous success of films like "Shaun of the Dead" and "Zombieland", the subgenre unwillingly almost turned into slapstick. Zombie movies seem like the ideal excuse for uninspired and amateurish directors to experiment with lousy digital effects, lame jokes and idiotic plot ideas. The least you can say about the Ford Brothers' contribution is that they tried to reimplement the basic foundations of an atmospheric and petrifying zombie film. In good old-fashioned George A. Romero tradition, the living dead are slow and individually weak, but their numbers increase rapidly while safety havens or defense tools are getting more and more scarce. Real zombie movies make you claustrophobic, even though the entire African continent is a setting, and - more importantly even - the living dead do not run, talk, make plans or play the honkytonk guitar! Considering this, "The Dead" is surely one of the better zombie movies of the new millennium, but unfortunately this still doesn't mean it's a very good film altogether. The zombies may be reminiscent to those introduced by George A. Romero in "Night of the Living Dead", but that's where the comparison stops already. "The Dead" is boring, the two male protagonists are anti-charismatic and they hardly exchange any conversations. The make-up effects vary from pretty good to lamentable and even the breathtaking desolate filming locations become quite monotonous after a while. The climax is 100% like you expect it to be, but I reckon it's still better than any other type of ending. Also, since this is Africa, I wondered all the (undead) animals were?
andrew salisbury i had known about this movie for many months, but never taken the plunge and watched it until now, and i can honestly say i,m glad i did. the story may not move at a fast pace, but it's interesting enough to hold the attentionit has a lot in common with Night of the Living Dead and Dawn of the Dead, especially in regards to how slow the zombies move. no cgi was used for the zombies, but the gore effects were still pretty goodit may not be nonstop action from start to finish, but the zombies are always a present threat, with our 2 main protagonists always having to keep moving in order to stay ahead of themits also nice to see a zombie movie set somewhere other than America or Britain for a change, namely in Ghana and Burkina Fasoas for the story, an American military engineer attempts to escape the dead by finding a working plane after his original flight crashed, leaving him stranded. he s forces with an African soldier who deserted his post in order to look for his son, and together they make their way through the countryside, dodging the dead as they go. if you like your zombie movies fast paced, then you probably won't enjoy this as it can be slow at times, but the story alone is enough to keep you watching
Abdalkarem Al Abawi I'm a big fan of the horror genre, and the zombies apocalypse ones are among my top favorite. I went to see this movie based on some review that claimed it was a "back to the roots" zombie movie. But man it was a waste of almost two hours of my life, I understand this is a B-Movie, but it isn't enough excuse for the bad and super cheesy acting by the lead character. His acting is as good as the acting in elementary schools plays. painful to watch. but I decided to be the hero and to continue watching hoping for a twist in the plot where that idiot would die and provide a good meal for the slug-slow zombies. That didn't happen... the cheesy idiocy continues to the very freaking end.3 stars goes for an African Mother that acted briefly but brilliantly, I'll let watch this agonizing movie till you find her!
begob After surviving a plane crash, a white engineer fleeing the chaos of zombie-torn sub-Saharan Africa gets swept back into the danger zone, where he teams up with a black soldier in search of his lost son.The sense of the vastness of Africa with its little localities is well done. And I love the idea of zombie picaresque, with a sequence of odd encounters under the constant threat of slow moving brain gobblers. But this is not good. It runs 20 mins too long, was probably 150 mins before editing, suffers from a plonkish story structure, and sucks diesel for characterisation and dialogue. The opening half hour is uncomfortable in its assumption of colonial values, and I'm not far off calling it racist - although it does become more humane when the soldier enters. A concept with so much potential, but every trick of story telling is missed.Impossible to judge the actors when they're ordered to deliver such drek. At least it didn't sign off with the US army saving the day.The music is beautiful.Overall, a disappointment after the combined IMDb and meta- scores.
