Protraph Lack of good storyline.
Dorathen Better Late Then Never
Kailansorac Clever, believable, and super fun to watch. It totally has replay value.
Hadrina The movie's neither hopeful in contrived ways, nor hopeless in different contrived ways. Somehow it manages to be wonderful
John Crane I have not seen this movie in such a long time, back when Hollywood Video was still in business by my house. I noticed that it had a picture of Uncle Sam and then when you turned the cover it would reform into a skeleton version of him with his skin falling off. This movie is brought to you buy the director of Maniac (William Lustig) and the writer of It's Alive (Larry Cohen), which were both very good horror movies with a great subtext entwined into it. This film would probably fit under my Guilty Pleasures of the horror genre next to C.H.U.D., The Rats and Sleepaway Camp. The first time that I saw this movie I laughed but the more and more look back on it, the more I have a certain respect for it. Sure the plot is thin and the acting is so-so but there is something about this movie that captures my eyes. Maybe it's the fact that it is a satire or maybe because it incorporated all the basic fundamentals of b-movies of the 80's and 90's. Either way, this movie was pretty okay, and put an emphasis on "okay." I will also give a big handshake to whoever thought up the way to approach the opening credits.I would recommend this movie, not as a key buy at Blockbuster or Wal-Mart, but as a DVD or VHS rental. This movie would especially satisfy the taste that so many B-movie connoisseurs want to quench. I found myself liking this movie to a point and I think that I always will.
lordzedd-3 Now there has been slasher movies, there have been zombie movies and there even has been zombie slasher movies. But using the persona of Uncle Sam to kill people is a cool new twist on both genres. Sam is a scary looking guy with or without the Sam mask, the story works. It has a great cast that does a great acting job. The story works, now the problem with it. The kid is obsessed with war, his mother should have told him that war is Hell and people die in war, it ain't no game. Which is finds out the hard way when Sam comes a calling for a visit. The Sam decay make up is gory and cool. The plastic mask is cool, let's face it, Uncle Sam is 97 % cool and worth watching over and over again. 8 STARS.
The_Void Uncle Sam represents the only non-Maniac Cop collaboration between Larry Cohen and William Lustig, which is a shame. Aside from just making a derivative psycho killer film, it seems obvious that writer Larry Cohen wanted Uncle Sam to have some brains too, which is shown by the attempt to inject a message into the proceedings. Larry Cohen is definitely a huge talent when it comes to entertaining horror movies - films like The Stuff, It's Alive and, of course, Maniac Cop are camp classics if you ask me; but he really should stick to entertainment, as this screenplay is a mess and the 'message' is so jumbled up that I have little idea what exactly it's preaching. The plot follows a young boy who believes that his uncle, who is coincidentally called Sam, is a hero. Uncle Sam was a patriotic, lunatic soldier killed by friendly fire whilst fighting for his country. His body is brought to his sister's place, coincidentally around the time of the Fourth of July celebrations. It's not long before his fellow Americans are abusing their privileges, and Uncle Sam decides to get up and do something about it.It's hard to take a movie about a war veteran zombie seriously, and this is something that Cohen should have taken into when putting pen to paper. The clear message on show is that war is bad, and there appears to be a backhanded comment about the way America handles people who don't submit to their 'way of life'. However, American politicians can rest easy because the central figure here is murdering people pretty much at random; which saps any weight out of the theme. In my opinion, Cohen should have decided what it is he wanted to write; a slasher, or a film with substance. However, even as a horror film, Uncle Sam falls short. We've got some nice gore scenes on display, but much of the running time is spent on building up the plot with the kid and his iration for Uncle Sam, and to say the least; it isn't very interesting. The film is very slow to start, with practically nothing happening in the first half of the film. Good sequences are few and far between, but I've got to say I liked the one that saw a stilt-wearing pervert prying into a girl's bedroom and the one that saw someone falling down a hill in a sack race. Neither of those grab you? This film won't either. Uncle Sam fails on every level.
saint405 What makes a hero? That is what the question is in Uncle Sam. Jody Baker thinks his enemy slaying Uncle Sam was the definition. Others like veteran Jed Crowley thinks there is no such thing as a hero, but a lunatic. Uncle Sam itself is a movie that asks a question, Am I A Good Movie? I caught myself a copy of Uncle Sam and popped it into my t.v, expecting a horribly bad and god awful movie just so I could laugh at it. But to my surprise, it wasn't what I expected.Uncle Sam is about Sam Harper, a soldier in the war who died from friendly fire. He is brought home to be buried and his coffin is nestled inside his nephews house. His nephew Jody is very sad about his metal earning Uncle. Jody even tells his family he wants to recruit in the army one day. But on the morning of July Fourth, three flag burners wreck havoc in a cemetery and awakes Sam's spirit. His crisp corpse pins his war metals to his chest plate, kills a peeping tom and steals his Uncle Sam uniform, ready to show how evil the world has turned.Uncle Sam to start is a cheesy B-Movie with horrible acting and bad effects. The storyline for start is the same old slasher crap. This time it's actually a soldier killing people like tax collectors who tax to much, or flag burners, or kids who beat up younger kids. As usual, the killer is deformed and wears a mask, but it works due to the creepiness of the Uncle Sam costume. The acting is horribly done, except for David "The Shark" who plays Sam wrecking havoc on the 4th of July. The characters are all badly molded, and the horrible acting doesn't make it better. Jody is horribly annoying, Jed is crazy, and Uncle Sam is blood hungry. Some of the characters aren't even needed, the dreaded Pointless Character curse. This one character is a kid who is scared for life from kids blowing fireworks at him. Due to this prank, Sam is nice to the boy and will bid the boys revenge by killing the bully's.The special effects are nothing special as well. In the finale, you see Sam blown through his house with a cannon. And here's something to look out for, you see the wire pulling Sam through the house. The gore is nice from an Axe in teachers skulls to national anthem screecher's heads being sliced off. It's always going to be war when Uncle Sam is in town. Now I thought this movie was going to be so bad I would die of laughter but to my surprise I didn't. Uncle Sam sets itself up as a mediocre horror and tries to climb the latter of progress but gets no where. The movie though succeeds in good gore and cool death sequences. Sure this movie is bad and cheap but I was entertained so maybe you will too. Uncle Sam gets a 6 out of 10, pretty low brow and stupid but you might be able to enjoy it. Uncle Sam= C+
