Claire Dunne One of the worst ways to make a cult movie is to set out to make a cult movie.
Kimball Exactly the movie you think it is, but not the movie you want it to be.
jessegehrig Yes, ha ha. Movie sucks. I saw most of it to be honest so I don't know how it ends, I'm OK with that. The reason I stopped watching this movie is because I correctly believed that there was something else on TV that was better to watch. I do not what it was I watched after A Guy Thing, but I know it was better, I almost want to say I binged watched a bunch of episodes of How Its Made...Why movie suck? Movie suck cause writing bad, bad, the story wants to be too many things and is unable to incorporate the various elements successfully. Maybe its the director's fault? Maybe its the producer or the studio? Its a real who-done-it. This is not a fun movie, whatever it is we call the human spirit this movie wants nothing to do with it. Hold it close, let it work its insidious screws into you.
Cady Star A Guy Thing is a very… Interesting movie. Although it has a great plot, there is something lacking. This could be the cheesy music used at inappropriate times or the 'comic' imaginary sequences. If you did end up watching this movie out of curiosity, interest or boredom then you will find this and uplifting comedy. On the other hand you might just find that watching it was a waste of time. However it does have the basis of a great movie, there's a good cast and a fairly decent ending. But be warned you need to have an open mind when watching this movie, especially if you are expecting a life changing comedy, because you might end up being disappointed. Also be warned some of the comedy is crude and lacks in morals, but this is one of the highlights of the movie, so ensure you turn your sense of humor on.
ss97-1 I have to say, when I first ran across this movie on Encore one day I was not expecting much. In fact I only watched it because I'm a big fan of Lee ever since I saw Malrats... I just knew he was going to be big based on that movie, he was funny as heck."A Guy Thing" took me by surprise. It was fun, and funny, and had some really great moments. As far as "romantic comedies" goes it was good. It was not too romantic, but rather put a funny spin on weddings and getting married in general. The "relationships" were taken more lightly than most romantically based comedy types. And it was really all around a well done movie. The jokes were a good mix, some very subtle moments, and some other more obvious laughs, but in all it was entertaining the entire time.Julia Stiles was quite surprising in a light comedy role. I had really only seen her be serious, or typical teen cliché in things I'd seen. She was never especially good or bad, just sort of there.... But in this movie, not only does she look as beautiful as I've ever seen her, she is pure and entertaining. Her knack for comedy is something I'd love to see more of, she was quite funny in this movie from her silly tiki dance, to her quirky timing.Lee is his typically brilliant self. The guy is just so much more talented than people even know yet. His diversity always seems to amaze me. This character was a bit removed from most things I've seen him do. He was just such a typical every man, that you almost forget while watching him that this was not actually him and was in fact a character. But that is a sign of a great actor. The ing roles are all great as well.... from end to end, top to bottom the movie was just a lot of fun. And I expect nothing more from a comedy such as this.
freakfire-1 Maybe this is every man's dream? To have a one night drunken fling with your fiancé's cousin? Or so you think. Turns out, it becomes a headache to keep it concealed for long.Enter panties left at the scene of the crime and everything just snowballs. From enraged police officers to wearing a wire for the FBI to bust such an officer, the movie takes one problem and turns it into multiple ones for the main character.Like many 90s films of this genre, however, this one also has a happy ending. Sort of. But this one is unique that it has two love triangles in one. But I guess I am happy everybody else was happy.Overall, the laughs were fairly good. So if you have a little time to kill, this will do the trick. "C+"
